1. Create a clean template. Choose five colors for your design and text. Avoid graphics and textures that will clash with photos. Use no more than 3 fonts that are easy to read. Condense your menu bar and navigation. Consider the value of clutter before adding it.

2. Use photos in 99% of your posts. People have a short attention span online. Images catch the eye away from competing content. Decision is made based on the first image. Personal snapshots are the most compelling.

3. Make your blog valuable Provide the details (who, what, where when, why) Use hyperlinks (homepage, twitter handle, blog) Offer your perspective that is unique to you. Think of your blog as a resource. Categorize and/or tag for easy navigation and search.
