The day I that was taken into care turned out to be the luckiest day
of my long life
Sir Martin Narey is right (Jan 13) that the birth parents are often
not best suited to care for a child.
I was taken into care at 6 and after four years in children’s homes
and with foster parents I was fortunate to be fostered with a family
that changed my life. At 16 I returned to my mother and saw the
life I would have lived if I had not been removed. As soon as I was
able I joined the Armed Forces in order to escape.
When I look back over 70 years I consider the day I was taken into
care to be the luckiest day of my life.
