Crash Course On Solar Power

  1. 1. Solar Power to the People An explanation of domestic solar power Marshall Bown (B. Eng Electrical BCSE F1286) yarraEnergy.com.au 1300 811 433
  2. 2. What is Solar power?

-Electricity from the sun-

Modern usage of this technology falls into 2 main divisions.

1. Grid connected Solar power

Where all electricity generated from the sun is used at the time it is made.

2. Stand alone solar power

Uses batteries to store and reuse electricity generated from the sun.

Combinations of these two are also possible .....

  3. 3. GRID CONNECTED SOLAR

Once electricity is generated from the solar panels it is fed directly to the house for use.

If there is any left over it is exported.

Creating a "credit" on your power bill.

From January any power exported is worth 4 times as much as what is being imported.

  4. 4. Typical Inverter showing meter

  5. 5. GRID CONNECTED QUOTATIONS

What do our inspectors look for to give firm quotes?

Roof types

-corrugated

-tile

-other

Roof angle of pitch and Northern orientation.

Meter location and electrical board type

Proposed location of Panels and Electricals

Number of storeys of building

Shading from vegetation

Current electricity usage

  6. 6. Solar Path finder report giving percentages of sunlight for any location
  7. 7. Design Decisions

From our site visit and discussions with the customer

We create a tailored system which is usually dictated by

-Your Budget

-quality

-expansion capability

-electricity usage

-building / site information

-shading

Then we can give a "fixed price"

  8. 8. Typical Quotation

  9. 9. Usual Additions to systems Some rules of thumb.....

Expandable system -larger inverter extra $500

Tile roof -special attachment brackets - $300 per kw

Tilt Frame -supports for panels extra - $300 per kw

Highest quality panels - $1500 per kw

2 storey or greater - $400 per system

  10. 10. System outputs

In Melbourne we have 4 PSH daily

This means....

A 1kw system will receive 4 hours of use per day

1kw x 4 hours = 4kwh of production daily

This is the unit on your electricity bill....

  11. 11. Cash back programs

You can receive $8000 back from the government

SEE www.environment.gov.au/settlements/renewable/pv/index.html/

for this you will need to be earning < $100k p.a

combined family income.

be living at the installation address as principal place of residence, able to provide a copy of your rates notice and drivers license to us to complete your application.

REC's and VREC's

You can receive up to $800 per kw of solar power

SEE orer.gov.au/sgu/index.html for more information on RECS

  12. 12. Typical pricing structure after all cashbacks have been redeemed

1kw - $3,000 4kwh per day

2kw - $12,000 8kwh per day

3kw - $20,000 12kwh per day

4kw - $28,000 16kwh per day

5kw - $36,000 20kwh per day

6kw - $44,000 24kwh per day

Please call us for larger system pricing....

  13. 13. Our 6kw system in Chirnside Park

  14. 14. Solar Panels

PRICE VERSUS QUALITY

-No moving parts

-warranties identical both 25 years...

-product visually better , materials with high quality

panels slightly better plastics and lamination

-Best price panels take up 8m square as opposed to 6m square with high quality panels

-conclusion customer design descision

  15. 15. Best price Panel installation

  16. 16. Best Quality Panel installation

  17. 17. Benefits of Solar power

Immediate action on climate change.

User education on power consumption and device efficiencies.

Reduction of inherent CO2 losses occurring from transported electricity.

Example: From Latrobe valley to your house %70 of electricity is lost in transmission.

If energy is being produced on site much lower CO2...

Higher social ethics - statements of renewable future

Community interaction - green electricity is shared

  18. 18. SERVICES WE PROVIDE

Full design and installation of....

Grid connected solar power

Stand alone solar power

Wind and Hydro power

Solar hot water

Solar air heating

Greening your home or business

Major project planning and implementation

Architectural work

Let us know how we can be of service to you....

  20. 20. Group discounts

Large groups can attract volume discounts...

Usually this is around the rate of 15% and moves up as volume increases.

An example group discount quote is provided on the next screen.

Thanks once again and we look forward to being of service to you in your solar projects....

Kind Regards,

Marshall Bown -CEO yarraEnergy.com.au

[email_address]

1300 811 433
