  2. 2. Reading <ul><li>Setting the scene: </li></ul><ul><li>Pick a time when you are not rushed </li></ul><ul><li>Make sure that your child is not too tired </li></ul><ul><li>Be sure to be comfortable with no distractions </li></ul>
  3. 3. Reading <ul><li>Sharing a story book with your child: </li></ul><ul><li>Look at the front cover </li></ul><ul><li>Ask questions about it </li></ul><ul><li>Look at the back cover </li></ul><ul><li>Does it tell you anything about the </li></ul><ul><li>book? </li></ul>
  4. 4. Reading <ul><li>Turn to the title page </li></ul><ul><li>Go through the book looking at the pictures and talking about what the story might be </li></ul><ul><li>Start to read the story </li></ul>
  5. 5. Reading <ul><li>Ask questions about the story but try not to interrupt the flow of the story too much </li></ul><ul><li>Encourage the child to pick out some tricky words on the page, after you have read it (only if they are at this stage) </li></ul>
  6. 6. Reading <ul><li>Talk about the story and if it was what they thought it would be about </li></ul><ul><li>Ask the child to retell the story in their own words </li></ul>
