This month, we have a conversation with Marcia Conner who recently presented at the Enterprise 2.0 Conference on the topic of The Future of Social Messaging in the Workplace.

She is passionate about micro-learning and is the creator of the #lrnchat twitter group that meets weekly to discuss issues related to learning, 140 characters at a time. She is thinking about learning constantly and how social media is impacting organizational learning, both formal and informal.

Marcia works at the intersection of social messaging and workplace learning, focusing on the trends, markets and dynamics shaping a distributed and collaborative business culture.

A former Fortune 500 learning chief, co-author of Creating a Learning Culture: Strategy, Practice & Technology, co-creator of Pistachio Consulting's Enterprise Microsharing Comparison, she writes the Fast Company column Learn At All Levels. She offers an insider's perspective on the fields of enterprise technology, corporate community building, social networking, HR, human capital development, distributed leadership and cognitive design.

Marcia was Information Futurist and Vice President of Education for PeopleSoft, Senior Manager of Worldwide Training at Microsoft and Editor in Chief of Learning in the New Economy magazine. She has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Fortune, CIO Magazine, PCWeek, Information Week, and has appeared on ABC World News This Morning. She is a Batten Institute Fellow at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business Administration and a 2009 Fellow of the Society for New Communications Research. • What microsharing becomes, then, is a way to establish presence, awareness and more passive, fluid, user-friendly status updating
  • What if you could take a glance? See their status without a meeting, and know that stream is a byproduct of their work
  • You can see from your desk what might be going awry, and you can plan ahead for how you’ll manage the opportunity
  • All without being invasive to them or overwhelming for you
