4. Advantages of The U Crate
Obviously having all
your items loaded in
one crate is going to
give them better
protection from
handling as well as
security. The U Crates
are also great for
protecting items that
will not fit in a box. It
allows you to bring
that coffee table or
book case as well as all
those boxes. It also
gives great protection
for any fragile items.
The 150 Cube U Crate
The 100 and 150 cubic
foot U Crates are made
of wood and we make
them available for you
to load at any of our
USA terminals as they
are too large to be
delivered and collected
from your residence.
You can collect from
our terminal yourself
though with a trailer or
a truck and load it and
bring it back to our
terminal if you prefer.
5. Will It Fit?
We suggest using a tape measure and masking tape to measure out
the crate size on your floor and wall and see if you can load all your
things into that space. Please note internal bracing for support
protrudes into crate up to 2 inches
The 100 cubic foot U Crate external dims are L 55" x W 48" x H 66"
The 100 cubic foot U Crate internal dims are L 54" x W47" x H 61"

6. The U Crates are made in Charleston by our crate maker
called Fedde (He’s from Holland) We keep stock in our
terminal in Charleston and truck to our terminals across
the USA once we receive your order. It can take up to a
week to get the crate to the terminal you require so
don’t wait until the last minute to book!

9. Home Delivery
If you want you can take the U Crate home to load. We
have a forklift at all the terminals so we can load it and
unload it from you when you return. Just bear in mind
we need to get the forklift blades under the crate to lift
it so if the pallet positions are blocked by your truck’s
body lay 4x4’s under the crate before loading the crate
so that we can get the forklift underneath it.
Obviously do not leave the U Crate outside to get wet!
10. Report to the office and they will
show you where to go to safely load
the U Crate
Start filling it up with boxes and furniture, heavy stuff at
the bottom. Make it all snug and tight and fit together
like a completed jigsaw puzzle. Make sure everything is
in a box or wrapped in bubble wrap or movers blankets
and taped up well. Every piece needs to be labelled and
numbered. When estimating the capacity of the crate
bear in mind the support bars in the corners of the
crate. If you have some empty spaces stuff them with
crushed up old paper or boxes so that your things can
not move around in the crate.
11. Lock her up!
When everything is loaded, nice and tight so that
nothing can roll around in the crate, close the door
and put on your padlocks (1 on a 100 and 2 on a 150
U Crate) You keep the keys. Some of the crates have
extra screws you can screw in to the pre made holes
to secure the door shut. Tell the warehouse
supervisor you are all loaded and stick on the bill of
lading label emailed to you for the trucking to our
shipping terminal and your job is done
12. Leave the rest to UPakWeShip!
After you have finished loading we will truck the crate
to one of our main shipping terminals in New York,
Charleston and Los Angeles. It will get loaded into a
shipping container with lots of other peoples U
Crates, U Pods, U Boxes and shared container
shipments. It normally takes us a week or two to fill
up a container and get it booked on a ship. You can
always check our online tracking system to see if we
have updated any shipping information on your crate.
13. All Aboard!
The container is then loaded on the ship, we send the
appropriate paperwork to USA customs, complete the
manifest and bill of lading instructions and off she sails
to foreign shores. You can always track the ship or
container with this app
Ships normally keep to a tight schedule but severe
weather conditions, port congestions or strikes can
sometimes cause delays.
14. Customs Clearance
We then have to unload the container and clear the
shipments with customs. Most small shipments heading to
EC Countries are cleared through customs at our own
terminal in England. There are then no further Customs
procedures while transporting to EC delivery points.
For shipments going to Australia as well as customs there is a
quarantine inspection where they check for prohibited items
like food products, untreated wood, animal products, dirt and
insects. There is a similar inspection policy in New Zealand
15. And now its ready for delivery
Once its ready we will call you and arrange a date for the
delivery. Some of the trucks can not carry the large wood crates
so sometimes your items might be loaded direct onto the
moving van and leaving the wood crate behind at the depot. The
delivery crew would then bring everything into your new home.
To avoid any extra charges, your residence must be accessible
for large moving trucks
16. Marks Quick Tips
Make sure everything in the crate has one of our labels on it
showing your name and booking number on it.
Make sure everything in the crate is in a box, plastic tote,
Rubbermaid box, suitcase or trunk or wrapped up well in bubble
wrap and cardboard.
A bike takes up less room and its easier to stack other things
around it if you put it in a bike box. You can normally get these for
free from a bike shop. It might mean taking off the pedals and front
wheel though.
Do not include any food, human or for pets in your shipment.
Any alcohol or tobacco products will probably be charged duties
and taxes and will end up costing more than if you bought them
locally
Do not ship any liquids in case they leak over other things in your
shipment.

more on our services, “how to” series and previous customers
moves.
17. Most Importantly
Do not book with an unlicensed Mover, Freight Forwarder or
Shipping Company. There are many rogues in this business who
will take your shipment and hold it hostage for more money. If
you use an FMC approved company you have protection
through the Government’s Federal Maritime Commission. We
have large financial bonds in place and strict licensing rules to
keep us in check and for your consumer protection.
With an unlicensed company you have no protection and the
FMC will not be able to help you sort things out if things went
bad.
