InContext Data was founded to connect healthcare compliance, risk, and quality managers with repurposed, inexpensive, off-the-self tools that enable faster and easier ways to understand, resolve, and prevent healthcare events. InContext Data conducted a 16 month study of the tools and processes used to reduce risk, meet compliance and increase the quality of care, with more than 100 hospitals and ASCs. InContext Data found a large gap in the tools used by healthcare organizations and the challenges they face. To reduce this gap InContext Data has developed the tools, processes, and applications to simplify and improve compliance, reduce risk, and increase quality in healthcare

  5. 5. The Result  Only enough time to be reactive  Investigation occurs after the event happened  Rely on practitioners word & memory  Data discovery lengthy & resource intensive  Log files lack detail to defend quality of care  The trial lawyers “twist” the lack of detail© CSOHIMSS 2011 Slide 4 October 21, 2011 Health Care Quality, Security and HIE Synergy 2011

  16. 16. Complex Problem… Simple SolutionLarge NJ Hospital  Spinal cord injury brought into the ER  Patient later discharged as a paraplegic  Patient claims hospital did not provide care  Hospital lacks ability to show what happened  Result – Hospital settles, cannot defend  With new solutions – Defend by showing exacting what was occurring in the MRI© CSOHIMSS 2011 Slide 15 October 21, 2011 Health Care Quality, Security and HIE Synergy 2011
  17. 17. Complex Problem… Simple SolutionSmall Private Hospital in Texas  Discovered large number of manual processes  Handwritten and faxed orders to ER  Scanned into a PDF  Emailed as an attachment to proper department  Manually entered into EMR  Result – Risk of errors & meaningful use failure  With new solutions – Discovered in minutes & new process in place quickly© CSOHIMSS 2011 Slide 16 October 21, 2011 Health Care Quality, Security and HIE Synergy 2011
  18. 18. Complex Problem… Simple SolutionLarge For-Profit ASC in Nevada Nurses using SMS to reach physicians Patient information inbound in clear text Cannot identify individual involved in snooping Gmail used by physicians Result – HIPAA violations & risk of litigation With new solutions – Discovered in minutes, new processes put in place© CSOHIMSS 2011 Slide 17 October 21, 2011 Health Care Quality, Security and HIE Synergy 2011
  19. 19. Complex Problem… Simple SolutionLarge For-Profit ASC in Florida  Litigation challenges  Not enough detail & “color” in the EMR  Lack data to defend & prove quality of care  Result – Challenging & expensive to defend  With new solutions – Hospital is now on a level playing field with trial attorneys© CSOHIMSS 2011 Slide 18 October 21, 2011 Health Care Quality, Security and HIE Synergy 2011
