  • Vraag is nu hoe werken sociale netwerken?
  • Six degrees of separation (also referred to as the "Human Web") refers to the idea that everyone is on average approximately six steps away from any other person on Earth, so that a chain of, "a friend of a friend" statements can be made, on average, to connect any two people in six steps or fewer. It was originally set out by Frigyes Karinthy and popularized by a play written by John Guare. Small world experiment The small world experiment comprised several experiments conducted by Stanley Milgram and other researchers examining the average path length for social networks of people in the United States. The research was groundbreaking in that it suggested that human society is a small world type network characterized by short path lengths. The experiments are often associated with the phrase "six degrees of separation," although Milgram did not use this term himself.
  • Mark Granovetter is an American sociologist at Stanford University who has created theories in modern sociology since the 1970s. He is best known for his work in social network theory and in economic sociology, particularly his theory on the spread of information in social networks known as "The Strength of Weak Ties" (1973). Granovetter's paper "The Strength of Weak Ties" is a highly influential sociology paper, with nearly 14,400 citations according to Google Scholar (by October 2010). In marketing or politics, weak ties enable reaching populations and audiences that are not accessible via strong ties. The concepts and findings of this work were later published in the monograph Getting A Job, an adaptation of Granovetter's doctoral dissertation at Harvard University's Department of Social Relations, with the title: "Changing Jobs: Channels of Mobility Information in a Suburban Population" (313 pages).
  • Amy Jo Kim, Creator of the community strategy for The Sims produced guidelines that Lizzie has drawn on in her own work. These categorise the members of the community as visitor, novice, regular, leader and elder, but it’s the bridges between these states that are the most important parts and that take the most work for the facilitator in the shared space. The idea of the interactive presenter is another area to think about, said Lizzie, adding that she had worked for the BBC to develop the idea from which they created the console for Celebdaq .
