Short biography.Ray Douglas Bradbury was born in Waukegan,Illinois, on August 22, 1920.He was the third son of Leonard Spaulding Bradburyand Esther Marie Moberg Bradbury. They gave himthe middle name "Douglas," after the actor, DouglasFairbanks.Bradburys early childhood in Waukegan wascharacterized by his loving extended family. Theseformative years provided the foundations for boththe author and his stories.Between 1926 and 1933, the Bradbury familymoved back and forth between Waukegan andTucson, Arizona. In 1931, young Ray began writinghis own stories on butcher paper.
Once read, his words are never forgotten. His best-known and most beloved books -- The MartianChronicles, The Illustrated Man, Fahrenheit 451, andSomething Wicked This Way Comes -- aremasterworks that readers carry with them over alifetime.
Ray Bradbury’s awards: Ray Bradburys work has been included in several Best American Short Story collections. He has been awarded the O.
