  2. 2. What is a pediatrician? • Diction: a physician who specializes in pediatrics. • Pediatrics: the branch of medicine concerned with the development, care, and diseases of babies and children. • Well basically a pediatrician is a form of doctor that works with children 2

Pediatricians’ Duty • Pediatricians focus on the physical, emotional, and social health of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults from birth to 21 years • They diagnose diseases, infections and injuries. • Pediatricians provide preventative health maintenance for children that are healthy • They also provide medical care and treat children who are already ill. 3

How long is the process? • It takes about twelve whole years to become a registered pediatrician • 4 years of undergraduate • 4 years of medical school • And then you will chose what type of pediatric you want to accomplish and do residency for 3 years • 1 year of internship • In addition the student is required to take the MCAT in order to get admitted into medical school 4

How to prepare for medical school in high school • In order to prepare for medical school it is suggested for you to take advantage of the rigorous courses during high school. • For example take Honor and AP classes. • Preferably Calculus, Biology, and Chemistry • It is important to start early so you can be informed on some background knowledge and so you can be prepared for what is expected 5
