  • 3. 2. Include a page which identifies your TV channels you will be discussing • I will be discussing my chosen TV channel which is Channel 4.

  • 5. a) General information about the channel including terrestrial and on demand platforms • a British public-service television. • Began in 1982. • largely commercially self-funded. • The channel was established to provide a fourth television service to the United Kingdom.
  • 6. b) Does the channel have sister channels, what is the difference between it’s main and sister channels? (sister channels example BBC = BBC1 is one of their sister channels) Sister channels What are they for? 4Seven This channel broadcasts shows that were missed the previous day even though there is an access to ‘on demand’ services. Film4 Screens films and it offers films in standard definition free of charge. Viewers must have a paid subscription with virgin media or Sky. More4 The channel showed US dramas including The West wing, showing a season 6 and 7 back to back, from its sister channel station E4. E4 Screens comedy or popular American sitcoms such as Friends (aired for 7 years), the inbetweeners, Scrubs and Charmed. 4Music An entertainment channel that shows music videos and also does a coverage on V festival & T4 on the beach. 4oD
  • 7. b) Does the channel have sister channels, what is the difference between it’s main and sister channels? Sister channels What are they for? Heat Channel features daily celebrity gossip and only a 60 minute programmes rounding up weeks stories. Kerrang! Content is music videos but mainly is for nu- metal and pop/punk rock. Rock bands music videos such as Green day and Paramore. Kiss Music channel which consists of mainstream Hip hop, dance & R&B. Magic Mainly based on the radio station ‘magic’ and plays easy listening music such as Celine Dion. Smash Hits! The channel broadcasts pop music in shows such as Chartbusters. The Box This channel mainly broadcasts music videos although it features other related programming with 4Music.
  • 8. c) What kind of TV shows are on this channel? What is it most known for (most successful shows). Why are they most successful? Provide examples Big Brother was originally broadcasted on Channel 4 from 18 July 2000 until 10 September 2010. number of contestants live in an isolated house for several weeks, trying to avoid being evicted by the public with the aim of winning a large cash prize at the end of the run.
  • 9. c) What kind of TV shows are on this channel? What is it most known for (most successful shows). Why are they most successful? Provide examples Come Dine With Me is one of the most successful shows on channel 4 because not only they do have a UK version but also an Austrailia and American version.
  • 10. d) Who is the target audience for this channel? You may have to identify different audiences at different times. Provide examples of how you know they are target audience; use TV shows as evidence. Target Audience for Channel 4: Example for target of audience: Example of how you know they are target audience: Example of TV shows for evidence: Age 16-34, because the channels aired on this channel can be informative such as documentaries, news for people who want to keep up to date with current affairs and also airs films on the weekend. • Ade Adepitan: Journey of My Lifetime • Food Unwrapped
  • 11. e) How does this channel compare to other channels? • Channel 4 in contrast to other channels shows the news, documentaries, films on the weekend, cooking programmes such as come dine with me and game shows such as the Million pound drop.
  • 12. f) What kind of documentaries are shown on this channel? Why? What time? To what type of audience? Provide examples for all. Type of documentary: Why? What time? To what type of audience? Examples of screen grabs: Educating Yorkshire • It’s humorous because it shows what its like to grow up or work in a secondary school. • 10pm • Target audience is 16-45 Don't Blame Facebook • Informative about the strength of social media and how you have to be cautious on the things you post. • 12am Hitler's Rise: The Colour Films • Informative and for people who are interested in history and politics. • 9pm.
  • 13. g) How does this channel’s type of documentaries compare to other channels’? Shows that C4 has a large audience within the age range of 16-34 in contrast to other channels because it has different types of TV programmes that appeal to that age group.
