Why Is Network Marketing So Looked Down on?
Most people know that network marketing or MLM doesn’t have the
best reputation. In fact most people downright hate MLM. But the
question is…. Why?!
I’ve often wondered why so many people have such a negative knee
jerk reaction to the network marketing industry and I actually find it
rather fascinating. Post a video on YouTube about working from home
and it’s only a matter of time before someone posts a negative
comment on it. Talk to your family and friends about what you’re doing

and you’re bound to see one or two eye rolls.
I guess the negativity can all really stem from one main thing… fear.
People always fear what they don’t understand. They also fear things
that are different. For many people working for yourself from home is
very, very different and that can be scary for some people.
People are afraid of losing money or getting into something that they
can’t get out of. However, the truth is that most companies today are
very inexpensive to start up. Part of that is because almost all MLM
opportunities can be built online. People don’t use brochures or flip
charts as much as they use to and that means you can get started for
a less because you won’t have as much in your “starter kit”.
When you talk about the investment of starting your own business
you’re usually talking about a few hundred dollars. A good chunk of
change sure, but not a huge life changing investment. Certainly
nothing like the amount of money it would cost to say start your own
brick and mortar business which can cost tens or hundreds of
thousands.
However, it is the start up cost PLUS the misunderstanding of exactly
what MLM is that scares so many people.
It also doesn’t help that many people know someone who has been in
MLM and failed. However, you have to remember that in many cases
the reason someone failed in the business isn’t necessarily the
business plan it’s self. Some times it’s the person. That might not
make people very happy to hear but it’s the truth.
Tell me this… how can one person join a company and fall flat on their
face and another person can join the same exact company with the

same exact products and become a millionaire? It obviously can’t just
be the company.
At the end of the day there are many reasons why people might be a
little nervous or skeptical about MLM however, when you really break
it down there isn’t much to be scared of at all. Network marketing
works for those who are willing to work for it. The negative stereotype
might always be there but MLM is helping people make more money,
work from home and live a better life, no matter what anyone else
thinks.
