Can I really use the 3 foot rule to market my
home based business?
If you are involved in a home based business and you haven’t heard
of the three foot rule I’m pretty sure you’ve been living under a rock.
The three foot rule is one of the oldest and most talked about methods
of marketing a home based business that there is.
If you don’t know what it is it pretty much goes like this: you talk to

anyone who comes within three feet of you about your business.
Eating at a restaurant? Tell them about your business. Riding on an
elevator? Tell them about your business. At the hair salon? You
guessed it…. Tell them about your business!
The three foot rule is one of those things that a lot of people talk about
but I must say, I doubt many people actually do. After all, would you
really join a business if someone approached you juice aisle and
started asking you if you wanted to change your life? Probably not.
The idea behind the three foot rule is if you talk to enough people
surely some of them will be interested in what you’re doing and sign
up. However, it rarely works out that way, and while you’re spending
all your time talking to complete strangers and most likely
embarrassing yourself you’ll probably just get discouraged and quit.
As you can probably guess, I am not a fan of the three foot rule. So
how do I get people to talk to about my business? Simple. I advertise
on the internet for free! No I don’t spend money on pay per click (that
can really eat away at your budget if you’re not careful!) or buy huge
lists of leads to dump into an auto responder (been there done that!)
I get targeted traffic to my website every single month by doing a few
simple things like marketing on forums, blogging, free classified sites
like Craigslist or Backpage, I use Myspace, facebook and article
marketing sites and guess what? People are actually calling me
instead of me calling them, business has never been better!
So ditch the three foot rule and start marketing in the 21st century! I
know that once you see just how great internet marketing is you’ll
never bug another person in the dry cleaners again!
