  • http://www.nature.org/success/art16924.htmlPalau's is committed to Economic and Energy Independence:  The government of Palau is actively seeking independence from fossil fuels while pursuing opportunities for economic growth. A sustainable Palau will serve as a role model for other economies around the world. An island nation like Palau knows it will be the last stop when the global oil supplies run out, so its government and business leaders are committed to energy independence. Palau will be be a proving ground for green-tech ventures:  In 2008 Alan Seid, the Finance Minster, shared his vision for Palau: "True Green." Palau will be a place to test clean tech innovations in a safe environment, where the companies creating the innovations will be able to showcase them in a relatively safe and secure environment in the developing world.  As Palau emerges as a center of Green Innovations, it will present an opportunity for the startups and VC's to showcase their innovations for large customers from other countries to visit and see them in operation in a Pacific Island nation. Palau is committed to a new virtual university: The government of Palau has set aside land for a virtual university, that will have at least two special centers - a center for Oceanographic and Environmental research that will partner with Scripps Institute, and an Entrepreneurship Center that specializes in green Technologies and business innovations.  Palau has also been in negotiations with the US Department of Agriculture, which is interested in this approach for Palau to achieve economic independence from US foreign aid over the longer term.  The GLEAN Network has been recruiting professors from the best universities who share a love of diving and snorkeling to become part of the virtual faculty for this university.  Green Entrepreneurship is rising in Palau:  Two companies were formed as a consequence of the three-day Global entrepreneurial Marketing Conference we led last year. Many other excellent ideas for Green innovations await funding and support from attorneys who can protect the IP, help businesses to form, and to do business with large enterprise customers outside Palau. You will have direct access to the highest government leaders in Palau:  Tom Kosnik was asked in 2008 by the president of Palau and the Finance Minister (both of whom are still active in business and government)  to work with the country over the next 10 years too achieve their vision for Palau: "True Green."  If you get involved with Green Innovations Showcase, you and your clients (global companies and startups) will have access to the senior government leaders in a country that is small, democratic, honest and committed to preserving its environment.
