We know he was born in Asia Minor in the third century A.D. and later became one of the most important figures in Italy.He came from a wealthy family. <br />Whenhis parents died he divided his fortune among the needy.After that, Santa Claus arrived in Europe.<br />He used to be represented with a white horse-drawn sleigh. The first time a Christmas tree was put up in Madrid, Spain was in 1870, in the Paseo del Prado.</li></li></ul><li>SOCKS AND GIFTS:<br />The tradition of sharing gifts, hanging stockings by the fireplace for Papa Noel or Santa Claus to leave gifts, comes from the story of a poor man, father of three daughters, who could not marry them because he had not money for the dowry.<br />But Santa Claus gavea bag of coins to each.All this was done in secret, he entered through a window and put the bags of gold for the girls into their socks, which had been hanged on the fireplace to dry.<br />
  9. 9. CHRISTMAS IN OTHER COUNTRIES<br />Brazil:<br />In this country, a family member dresses up as Santa Claus or hires someone to do it. So the days before Christmas there are often large groups of “Santas" sitting in the streets waiting for someone to take the contract.<br />Chile:Before you get the presents, a “Father Christmas” is brought to the kids to walk to where the gifts are. <br />
