  • 2. French Regular -IR Verbs<br />There are 5 main kinds of French verbs: -er, -ir, -re, stem-changing, and irregular. Once you've learned the rules of conjugation for each of the first three kinds of verbs, you should have no problem conjugating regular verbs in each of those categories. This lesson is on -ir verbs, which are the second most common category.<br />
  • 3. French Regular -IR Verbs<br />The verb form that ends in -ir is called the infinitive (in English, the infinitive is the verb preceded by the word "to"). -ir is the infinitive ending. <br />The verb without the -ir is called the stem or radical.<br />
  • 4. Les verbesréguliers en ir au présentThe regular verbs in ir in the present tense<br />Example of verbs in ir(finir= to finish, remplir = to fill, choisir = to choose) this form of the verb is called the infinitive.<br /> The stem of the verb is the infinitive minus the ir (example: finir – ir = fin(m.) Fin +iss (Pl.)). <br />
  • 5. Different endings are added to the stem for each subject.<br />Infinitive of the verb finir – to finish,<br />I<br />You<br />he/she<br />nous<br />you<br />They<br />

  • 7. Choisir = to choose
  • 8. Remplir = to fill
  • 9. Atterrrir = to land
  • 10. Punir = to punish
  • 11. Applaudir = to clap
  • 12. Réussir = to succeed
  • 13. Réfléchir = to think
  • 14. bénir = to bless
  • 15. Grossir = to get fat
  • 16. Guérir =to cure, to heal, to recover
  • 17. Maigrir =to lose weight, to get thin
  • 18. Nourrir=to feed, to nourish
