Stem Cell Transplantation Immunology Award Research Proposal Stem Cell Transplantation Immunology Award Research Proposal Document Transcript

  • CIRM Stem Cell Transplantation Immunology Awards Research Proposal Use this template to complete Part B of the Stem Cell Transplantation Immunology Awards application, the Stem Cell Transplantation Immunology Awards Research Proposal. The proposal may include tables and figures. Before you begin, please complete the Project Information table below. In addition, enter your application number by double-clicking and editing “RM1-0XXXX” in the footer section of page 1 of the proposal (Table of Contents page). Please observe the indicated page limits for each section as CIRM will not accept pages that exceed these limits. No appendices are allowed. Do not modify typeface (Arial), font size (11 pt), or margins (1” all around). When you have finished the Research Proposal, please fill in the appropriate page numbers for each section listed in the Table of Contents. We recommend that you convert the document into a PDF file to ensure that figures, tables, and formatting are preserved when submitting. Note that the application for CIRM Stem Cell Transplantation Immunology Awards consists of four parts: A) the Application Information Form (together with Subpart II, if appropriate), B) the Stem Cell Transplantation Immunology Awards Research Proposal, and C) the Biographical Sketches for Key Personnel, and D) the Related Business Entities Form. Send electronic copies of all four parts of the application as attachments in a single email to Immunology@cirm.ca.gov. In addition to the electronic submittal, send an original hard copy of the application signed by both the Principal Investigator and the institution’s Authorized Organizational Official, plus 5 copies of the application (preferably double-sided) to: Stem Cell Transplantation Immunology Awards Application California Institute for Regenerative Medicine 210 King Street San Francisco, CA 94107 All application materials must be received by CIRM both electronically and in hardcopy no later than 5:00 pm PST on January 26, 2010. No exceptions to this deadline will be made. • Instructions for Completing the Stem Cell Transplantation Immunology Awards Research Proposal For joint applications from CIRM/CFP collaborators, Part B must be completed as a single project proposal. Rationale and Impact (up to 1 page) Summarize the context and background of the present application and the specific rationale for the work proposed. Evaluate existing knowledge and technology, and specifically identify the gaps that the project is intended to fill. If the aims of the application are achieved, state how the proposed approach will make a critical contribution to the stem cell field by overcoming the immunological barrier to translation of stem cell therapies to the clinic. Project Objective, Success Criteria, Specific Aims, Milestones and Timeline (up to 2 pages) State the objective(s) of the specific research proposed. Define success criteria to assess whether the objective of the proposed research has been achieved. Success criteria must be well described, meaningful and scientifically justifiable. List each specific aim of the proposal in a concise and step-wise fashion, and describe how each aim will support the objective of this research. Enumerate milestones for the project, ideally for each specific aim, that provide a measure of progress toward achieving the aim. Provide a realistic timetable for completing each proposed specific aim and for achieving the related milestones Research Design and Methods (up to 4 pages) Describe concisely, but in sufficient detail to permit evaluation of the merit of the research, the experimental design, methods and techniques to be employed to achieve the aims and milestones specified in the proposal. Identify the new or risky aspects of the research, anticipated pitfalls, and plans to overcome or circumvent difficulties that may arise. Describe the methods of analysis of results including those that will determine milestone achievement. For applications from CIRM/CFP collaborators, applicants must clearly delineate the research that will be performed in California and funded by CIRM and the research that will be funded by the CFP. This delineation is essential for review of the research plan and the appropriateness of the budget. Feasibility and (when applicable) Preliminary Data (up to 3 pages) Provide any information that will help to establish the experience and competence of the PI, Partner PI (where applicable) and the team(s) to pursue the proposed project. Provide preliminary data to support the concepts, hypotheses and/or approaches proposed in the application. References (up to 2 pages) List all references used in the body of the proposal. Collaboration, Resources and Environment (up to 1 page) Stem Cell Transplantation Immunology Awards Research Proposal
  • Provide a short description of the facilities and environment in which the work will be done, and the major equipment and resources available for conducting the proposed research. Discuss ways in which the proposed studies will benefit from unique features of the scientific environment or employ useful collaborative arrangements. If collaboration (including CIRM/CFP collaborations) is integral to the success of the project, describe how the collaboration will be managed.
