    • In this Issue : 2009 Fall Annual Symposium Reserve the day for our next Immunology Montreal Fall Symposium 2009 on: - 2009 Fall Annual Symposium “Cytokines in Health and Diseases” - H1N1 and you Date: November 13, 2009 - International Day of Location: New Residence Hall, McGill University, Immunology 3625 Avenue du Parc, Montreal, QC - Happy Hour This symposium will focus on the role of conventional and novel cytokines in - Dragon Boat Race immune system homeostasis, during infections, as well as in the development of Competition 2009 autoimmune inflammation. In the previous symposium, we focused on tumor - Young scientists necrosis factor (TNF) as a therapeutic target in three different diseases and as well discuss the potential side effects of such therapy. In the current symposium, we will gather experts in the field of the IL-17-IL-23 axis, including the important role of IL-1β, IL-6, TGF-β and IL-22 in the regulation of this axis. Functions of IFNγ and IL-12 will also be addressed, but indirectly. This symposium with the focus on cytokines organized by Immunology Montreal will be held with a target audience Immunologists (Investigators and Trainees) that are Basic. Scientists or Clinicians from McGill University, University of Montreal, Institut de Recherche Clinique de Montreal and Institut Armand-Frappier (affiliated with the University of Quebec at Montreal). The media and the general public will be welcome.     • International Day of Immunology For that event Immunology Montreal received an AWARD from EFIS Day of Immunology prize-(April 29, 2009) EFIS (European Federation of Immunological Societies). (Under the auspices of IUIS) http://www.efis.org/ http://www.iuisonline.org/ How vaccines work: Spread the word and not disease Immunology Montreal was awarded by EFIS third prize to honour the outreach activities of all the volunteers that centered on the Day of Immunology (DoI) (April 29th, 2009). These activities were aimed at school children in order to raise public awareness of immunology. The DoI Prize was awarded to Dr Marianna Newkirk (President of I.M.) for the first time at the European Congress of Immunology (ECI), 13-16 September 2009 in Berlin, Germany. Clik here.     • Dragon Boat competition For the third year our Dragon Boat Team – The Natural Killers Team – competed in the 14th edition of the Montreal Dragon Boat Race festival held in Montreal (Jean Drapeeau Parc) July 25 and 26, 2009. This year the team finished second in their division in the 500m final. It was a great festival weekend! The team competed very hard, showed great improvements and had a lot of fun! Congratulations!
