Doorways into the brain! Sleight of mouth patterns are language are doorways into your customers brain, that give access to the steering wheel in their head.
Beliefs are the steering wheel! Change a belief and you change a behaviour. For instance: I’m wondering how useful having your customer believe what you sell is worth more money than what you are asking . A sales is done at that point. You just have to ask for the order. I’ve been using one of my favourite Sleight of Mouth patterns in this video. (There are 14 main ones) It’s so powerful, that almost every business could see an uptick in sales simply by adding this pattern (1 or 2 sentences) to their printed and verbal communication. Here’s it is:
How our brain works! In my computer engineering days, I studied a course called Neural Networking. It’s the study of designing computers like the human brain so they can learn and become smarter. The important thing to know is the human brain is a super sophisticated pattern matching machine.
Take a look at those stop signs: When your brain sees them, it scans for the pattern inside its data banks and finds its automatic response to the pattern. Which is “STOP”. This makes sense. And when you communicate, you need to remember people don’t have patterns to match up for every situation. And the brain doesn’t care. It will fill in the blanks with information that can move them towards buying from you...or away (The default response). Here’s how to use this built in patterning response to help sell something...
How to sell a tailored suit Let’s say you are selling suits. Someone has the belief they don’t need a tailored suit. Let’s use our new pattern matching knowledge to persuade them otherwise. We’ll use the analogy sleight of mouth pattern. Analogy is using a built in pattern you know someone has to compare it to something else. “Mr. Prospect a poorly tailored suit is like a stop sign to your boss, telling them you shouldn’t be promoted because it shows you can’t get the little things right” Simple right? It is. It’s an instant connection, and in the right person it will help shift their beliefs to “I need a tailored suit”. Get an analogy. And start using the 13 other Sleight of Mouth patterns in your copy. Your business will grow like a wild fire in a dry, dead forest.
