WHAT IS WIMAX? Users today mostly use Broadband connections,Wi-Fi and cellular networks to access the Internet. WiMAX is IP based 4G technology wireless broadband access technology performance similar to Wi-Fi, with the coverage and QOS (quality of service) of cellular networks.o  WiMAX=Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access
  3. 3.  Based on IEEE 802.16 standard. Founded by Ensemble, CrossSpan, Harris & Nokia. Ensures compatibility and interoperability between broadband wireless access(BWA) equipment. Intended for WMAN(wireless MAN).

THE WIMAX FORUM The WiMAX Forum is a non profit organization formed to promote the adoption of WiMAX compatible products and services A major role for the organization is to certify the interoperability of WiMAX products. Another role of the WiMAX Forum is to promote the spread of knowledge about WiMAX.
  5. 5. o GOAL OF WiMAX To provide high speed Internet access to home and business subscribers, at a data rate of 30-40 Mbps, with the 2011 update providing upto 1 Gbps for fixed stationso COVERAGE RANGE OF WiMAX WiMAX can provide broadband wireless access (BWA) up to 30 miles (50 km) for fixed stations, and 3 - 10 miles (5 - 15 km) for mobile stations.
