History Social networking has been around a long time on the internet. However, most of the time it was never referred to as \"social networking\", or \"social software\". Examples of popular social software that existed before social networking became a buzz word are: IRC (Internet Relay Chat), Instant Messaging (the friends list), Forums (against the friends list), Blogs (backlinks and organic linking between friends), Webrings (in essence social software), Napster (Peer to Peer software), Groove (shared browsing and collaboration), NeoPets, and too many others to list here. Though these products helped in a specific domain but did not solve the complex problem of replicating an Offline Social Network online partially or completely. Online Social Networking.. Now Introduction of Web 2.0 changed the face of the web and brought a revolution in Social Networking Products. With new standards and sharing concepts Social Networking grew to new heights. Recently with the advent of new companies like Orkut, MySpace, FaceBook - social networking has become a widely recognized phenomenon and has spiraled outward manifesting itself in previously unimagined (or undefined) places.
