Goal of the Project To Design a Courier Service of the Future The Dabbawalas of Mumbai run a local courier service that delivers every day thousands of hot, home-made lunches to people from their homes to their offices and back with six sigma* accuracy. They have been doing this without modern technology for several years. Taking a leap out of their book, ( using technology) design a courier service at a national scale. the service will depend on local collection and delivery by small enterpreneurs (like ebay) abd yet will be efficient and accurate like the dabbawalla’s. Six Sigma is a disciplined, data-driven approach and methodology for eliminating defects (driving towards six standard deviations between the mean and the nearest specification limit) in any process -- from manufacturing to transactional and from product to service.
