Curriculum & Instructions <ul><li>Follow AP Chinese curriculum </li></ul><ul><li>Thematic Unit Design </li></ul><ul><li>Performance-based Task Assessment </li></ul><ul><li>Students know what they need to be able to perform with four language skills in the end of the unit before the lesson starts. </li></ul><ul><li>Build students motivation through implementation of performance assessment. </li></ul>

Challenges in AP exam <ul><li>A variety of topics & time pressure while taking exam </li></ul><ul><li>Textbook: provide basic vocabulary and structures for language function </li></ul><ul><li>Project: provide students expose to more topics and vocabulary for reading and listening comprehension </li></ul><ul><li>2-minutes oral presentation: offer students to practice and organize their ideas in a timely manner and produce in a logic manner. </li></ul><ul><li>Spontaneous Conversational Skill: in class practice </li></ul><ul><li>Timed Writing (typed): task completion; language use; delivery: rich vocabulary & expression </li></ul>

  10. 11. Support from Home <ul><li>AP exam scores are not the only method to evaluate the success of studying Chinese Language and Culture. Students’ future replacements in college Chinese departments and life-time love for Chinese Language and Culture are also legitimate indicators. </li></ul><ul><li>Let us support our students by encouraging them to enjoy taking challenges to be willing to develop self-study and problem solving skills for college readiness. </li></ul>
