  • 2.  Respiratory Distress  Respiratory Failure  Respiratory Arrest Respiratory Issues
  • 3. S/SX of breathing problems  Breathing-fast/slow  Trouble w each breath  Noisy breathing  Difficulty speaking Breathing problems
  • 4. Asthma  Asthma- narrowing of the airway do to exposure to allergens, stress or exercise
  • 5. Giving inhalers: - Shake - Put med in chamber - Remove cap off mouthpiece - Attach spacer - Tilt pt. head back & breath out slowly - Place in mouth - Push down med & take deep breath - Hold for 10 seconds & breath out Inhaler use
  • 6. Assisting a victim with breathing issues  Scene safety?  Medication ?  Give inhaler  911-if no meds, does not improve w med, breathing gets worse  ? CPR
  • 7. { {Mild blockage  Coughing  -let them cough Severe blockage  Can’t breathe  No sound/speech  -HELP!  -begin Heimlich Choking
  • 8. If becomes unconscious – Start CPR
  • 9. Allergic Reactions
  • 10. { {Mild reaction  Stuffy nose  Itching eyes  Hives Severe reaction  Difficulty breathing  Stridor (airway closing)  Swelling of face  Shock Mild vs. severe reactions

  • 12. Heart Attack ( MI- myocardial infarction) Leading cause of death
  • 13. Atherosclerosis →CAD Coronary artery disease
  • 14. Cardiac Compromise ↓ Heart not functioning properly ↓ Cardiac Arrest –s/sx : apnea, no pulse
  • 15. s/sx of heart attack
  • 16.  Levine sign  Cyanosis  JVD ( jugular vein distention)  Peripheral edema Other s/sx
  • 17. Denial often a sign
  • 18.  Stay calm  Stop activity & rest  Call 911  Get AED  Give aspirin ( 2 tabs children's str. /1 tabs adult str. )  CPR as needed Treatment
  • 19.  Lack of blood to brain causing loss of consciousness  Short period of time when no response then seems ok Fainting
  • 20.  Lower to floor  Call 911 Treatment
  • 21. Diabetes
  • 22.  Not eating  Vomiting  High activity with no food  Too much insulin Causes of low blood sugar
  • 23. Tx. For ↓blood sugar  Give food/drink with sugar  Sit & rest  Call 911
  • 24. Stroke-CVA Cerebral Vascular Accident
  • 25.  HTN (↑BP)  CAD ( coronary artery disease)  Diabetes  Heart disease  Hx. Of stroke Risk factors:
