THE INFLUENCE OF SCHOLARSHIP TOWARDS THE LEVEL CONSUMPTION AND ACHIEVEMENT OF ACCOUNTING STUDENT OF MUHAMMADIYAH UNIVERSITY OF YOGYAKARTA YEAR 2012 ABSTRACT Currentlyeducationis very important. Therefore, inhelpingthe government to provideeducationscholarships forachieversandthose who cannotaffordeconomically. This studytried to findfacts aboutthe influence ofscholarshipon the level ofconsumption andthe level ofstudentachievement. This research was qualitative that collect the data by interview. The respondents were three students of Accounting Department Year 2010 Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta. This research has found that a scholarship influencing the students who accept. In conclusion, the scholarships had a positive impact, both in terms of consumption and in terms of performance. The results of this research can be a new reference to make kind of this research in a bigger scale in the future. Keywords: scholarships, influence, consumption, achievement, student, UMYA. INTRODUCTION The cost to take to college is very expensive. The challenge of the high cost ofeducation causing education cannot be equitable for all citizens. The University helda scholarship program to overcome the problem of high cost of education. Purpose ofawarding scholarships under the general guidelines are (1) improving equity andlearning opportunities for students who are experiencing economic hardship, (2) to
encourage and maintain the spirit of learning so that students can complete theireducation on time, and (3) encouraging increased academic achievement so that boostthe quality of education. For this study, researchers tried to reveal the effect of thelevel of consumption of scholarships Faculty of Economics, University ofMuhammadiyah Yogyakarta. This study aims to: (1) determine whether there was an effect on the level ofconsumption of the scholarship students of Accounting Program, University ofMuhammadiyah Yogyakarta, and year 2010. (2) To find out whether there isinfluence between the consumption level of learning achievement and learningmotivation Faculty of Economics, University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. This research tried to find the fact of accounting student of MuhammadiyahUniversity of Yogyakarta use the scholarship based on four basic questions:1. Why do students get scholarships?2. How do they get the scholarship?3. How do they allocate it?4. What is the impact on student achievement and motivation? The respondents were the students of Accounting 2010 of MuhammadiyahUniversity of Yogyakarta. This research was conducted by interviews to collect thedata with some question about the topic.
B. LITERATUR REVIEW Basically, scholarshipisthe income for the received. This is in accordance withthe provisions of Article 4 paragraph (1) of PPh /2000. Mentioned the income isadded the economic capability of any kind derived from sources outside Indonesia orIndonesia that can be used for consumption or increase the wealth of the taxpayer(WP). Since the scholarship can mean adding the ability for the recipient economies,that means scholarship as income. Understanding Scholarship as quoted from www.wikipedia.org is a gift in theform of financial assistance given to individuals who intended to be used for thecontinuation of education pursued. Scholarships can be awarded by governmentagencies, companies and foundations. Scholarships can be categorized on the free giftor giving the bond work (called a bond) after completion of education. Long bonddepartment varies, depending on the agencies that provide these scholarships. From theMuhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta there are several kinds: (1) GeneralScholarship, which is for students with outstanding academic and quota provisionsthat are determined by each faculty (2) Main Achievement Scholarship, whichrequires scholarship recipients to make paper then presented in addition, scholarshipsare also given priority to students who are active in the organization (3) Special
Achievement scholarship, for outstanding students who have academic andextracurricular activities. While coming from Koopertis V region are (1) Super SemarScholarship (2) BBM Scholarship (3) PPA Scholarships. Meanwhile, outside theMuhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta is only one Department of Education andCulture Scholarship DIY.C. METHODOLOGY This research tried to find the fact of how the accounting student ofMuhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta uses scholarship. The data were collectedin Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta from 1 November 2012 to 15November 2012. The samples were Accounting student of Muhammadiyah University ofYogyakarta. Qualitative way was used to make this research, because this way kindof mini research so it only took 3 students as the respondents who gave theinformation. The technique to collect data was by interview. The respondentsanswered some question about the research topic. List of the questions and theanswers from the respondents was attached in appendix pages. The all of questionbased on three basic questions:1. Why do students get scholarships?2. How do they get the scholarship?3. How do they allocate it?4. What is the impact on student achievement and motivation?
D. FINDINGS AND DISCUSSIONS Once the data is collected and based on the data, all the respondents said thescholarships affect the level of consumption and the level of their achievement. Thereare several reasons associated with the effect. The first is the financial and economicfactors students. Second is the procedure and how they get the scholarship. Third isthe way they allocate scholarship. And the fourth impact scholarship itself.1. Students Finance and Economic Factors Many people who want to sit on a bench lectures but are limited by economicand financial conditions are not adequate. In addition, education also has such anabsolute must in this day and age. There also were thinking that if they study at leastthey are not retarded and not obsolete. Some statements from respondents: Hmm, BBM yaaBantuanBelajarMahasiswa yang pastibuat yang kurangmampudeh.(BBM is Help Student Learning, for students who are less able) (Respondent II) Waduuhhakukurang tau, tapisalahsatunya BBMbuat yang kurangmampudarisegiekonomigitu,soalnyakanakungambil yang BBM. hehehe(I do not know, but one of them BBM,,, for the less fortunate in terms of the economy, because I took the BBM) (Respondent III)2. Procedure and how to get scholarships
How to get a scholarship actually vary, depending on the agency thatadministers them. As in the University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, if studentswant to get a scholarship, they should besubmitted or register first. After that, thestudents must be complete the requirements specified by the university.If the all ofrequirements complete, student can get a scholarship. Some statements fromrespondents: Yakitalah yang ngajuinmasaiyakampus yang milihkanmahasiswanyabanyakbanget. Kaloakukemarensihsyaratnya FC KTM sama KRS, SK tidakmenerimabeasiswadarisumberlain, FC KartuKeluarga, FC Rekeninglistrikbulanterakhir, FC IPK min 3.00 disahkanpimpinan PT, SK gajiortudisahkanolehkadesituajasih.(We must request to the university. The requirement is copy of KTM and KRS, SK did not receive a scholarship from another source, copy of family card, copy of electricity accounts last month, a copy of IPK min 3.00 which was passed by the universities, SK salary parent passed by the village head) (Respondent I) Yangajuinsendiri. How to allocate the scholarship Having obtained the scholarship, student would be allocated control everyaspect of their needs. Various kinds of needs that may be the variety of things relatedto college including tuition, for cost of short semester and others. Or they use it foroutside the tuition such as monthly fee or even just for their shopping pleasure. Assome of the statements of the respondents: Buatbiayabulanan, Kalobuatbiayakuliahkan gag cukupmey,, (For a monthly fee because to the cost of college is not enough) (Respondent I) Buat bantu biayakuliah, trusakubuatbeli HP barujuga,,,(to help the cost of college, then to buy a new HP also) (Respondent II) Gag semuanyajuga kali buat shopping, buat bantu bayaruangkuliah, pernahjugaakupakebuatbayarbiaya Semester Pendek. (Not everything for shopping, to help the cost of college. I also ever used to pay the cost of Short semester) (Respondent III)4. Impact scholarships
All the things weve definitely got to have an impact of each, whether positiveor negative impact. Such scholarships are awarded to students. In this case, all of therespondents felt the positive impact of the presence of these scholarships. Statementof respondents regarding it: Yaapastiberdampaklahmey,belajarhematpasti, dansekarangakuudahbisangaturkeuangansendiri.(Certainly have an impact, can learn thrift, and now I can already manage own finances) (Respondent I) hmmm, yaaadenganadanyabeasiswatersebutbisabuatakutermotivasilebihgiatbelajar may, kanakujugasadar, biayakuliahitu gag murahjadiyamumpungdapetbeasiswabelajar yang benerbiarcepatkelar, trusnyarikerjadehh.(With the scholarship could make me more motivated to study hard, because Im also aware, tuition is not cheap. so, while I was a scholarship I had to learn the right let me quickly finish, and then looked for work) (Respondent II) Ada sihpastilah may, menambahsemangatuntuklebihmaju, untuklebihbaik, untukrajinbelajar, untukituajadeeh. hehehe(Add spirit to more advanced, to better, to study hard) (Respondent III)
E. CONCLUSION Many people who want to have the highest level because they think theschool, college and learned they could keep up with the times and not backward. Butunfortunately, not everyone can realize their desire to continue to be a bench study.To many of the factors that caused them to stop in the middle of the street as aneconomic factor. Therefore, it was held that scholarships come to help problem thecost of education. To get the scholarship was not immediately get up. As at theMuhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta, the student must submitted or register andmust be complete the requirements specified. Based on this research, we can conclude the student allocate a scholarships toa variety of needs. Although scholarships give the positive impact, but without themknowing scholarships will also be a negative effect if they use it for things that arenot supposed to. If their allocated the scholarship for things that are not supposed, itwill be make the consumption levels higher than normal. Therefore, the grantee mustbe prudent in determining the usefulness of real scholarship. So, the scholarship isstill giving a positive impact.
