Executive Summary: Nucleus Research’s Hyoun Park published a note on the CPM
market based on some customer interviews with Nucleus clients over the past six
months. He spoke to about 20 Oracle customers from a very limited demographic of
CFOs, purchasing agents, and IP project managers. Oracle is positioned as a Leader in
this report, although the author positions Oracle behind SAP and IBM on the Usability
and Functionality axes.
According to Nucleus “Oracle CPM products…has long been considered the gold standard in Corporate
Performance Management … Nucleus found that this is still true, as both vendors and end-users typically use
Oracle CPM as the standard for comparison.” Nucleus believes that customers typically only use financial
tools in Oracle's CPM suite rather than newer revenue, strategy-based, and risk-based capabilities because
these additional functionalities require an additional purchase. This belief contributed to a lower score for
Oracle compared to IBM and SAP. This score was not based on the functionality offered by Oracle, but on
Nucleus’ perceived adoption of functionality by end users.
Market Segment: Corporate Performance Management are usually as a suite of capabilities supporting
operational finance tasks such as: planning, budgeting and forecasting (PBF); financial close and reporting,
profitability, cost management, spend management, and financial consolidation. Many vendors also provide a
strategy management module to link high-level strategy to specific operational performance measures. This
note seems to focus on the mid-market segment with a focus on cloud-based CPM solutions.

Additional Points to Consider: Nucleus did not request a briefing from Oracle on this topic, and have not
spoken to any of our executives about our CPM capabilities, adoption, or customer roadmap. This note is
based completely on self selected audience chosen by the analyst. All the those surveyed were based in North
America. The research note also targets a mid-market audience, which is not Oracle’s target audience.
