  3. 3. Childhood <ul><li>Amelia Earhart was born in Atchison (Kansas) in 1897. </li></ul><ul><li>She had a younger sister, Grace. </li></ul><ul><li>They spent much of their childhood with her grandparents. </li></ul><ul><li>In 1907 they moved to Iowa. </li></ul>
  4. 5. Youth <ul><li>Amelia aspired to a future career. </li></ul><ul><li>She kept clippings about successful women. </li></ul><ul><li>She worked as a volunteer nurse during the World War First. </li></ul><ul><li>In 1920 she flew for the first time. </li></ul>

Achievements <ul><li>1922: Earhart flew to an altitude of 14.000 miles setting a world record for female pilots. </li></ul><ul><li>1928: First woman to fly solo across the North American Continent and back. </li></ul><ul><li>1932: First woman to fly solo across the Atlantic ocean. </li></ul>
  6. 7. 1937 World flight and disappearance <ul><li>She wanted to be the first person to fly around the world. </li></ul><ul><li>She departed from Miami with her navigator Fred Noonan. </li></ul><ul><li>The stage from Lae (New Guinea) to Howland Island was by far the most challenging. </li></ul><ul><li>They disappeared in the middle of the Pacific ocean. </li></ul>
