In Acts 1-3 of Macbeth:
- Three witches prophesize that Macbeth will become Thane of Cawdor and King of Scotland. Their predictions come true and Macbeth's ambition grows.
- At Macbeth's castle, he and Lady Macbeth kill King Duncan and frame the chamberlains. Macbeth becomes king.
- Worried about another prophecy, Macbeth arranges to have Banquo and his son killed. He has hallucinations at a banquet and his paranoia increases.
