    • CHOPPER DRIVE FOR DC MOTOR WITH SOFT STARTOBJECTIVE: The aim of the project is to develop a speed control system for DC motorusing four-quadrant chopper using four-quadrant chopper it is possible todemonstrate forward and reverse motoring and braking.PRINCIPLES: The speed of DC motor is directly to armature voltage and inverselyproportional to flux. by maintaining the flux constant, the speed can be varied bythe armature voltage. The direction of rotation is reversed by reversing either fieldor armature voltage.SYSTEM DESCRIPTION: The functional block diagram of four-quadrant chopper drive dc motor isshown in fig.1. The system consists of uncontrolled rectifier for converting ac to dc. thenthe supply is varied using chopper to provide variable dc supply for armature of dcmotor . the field is excited directly by the dc supply from un controlled rectifier. The system also senses armature current to provide over load protection,field current to provide field failure protection and supply current to provide no-volt protection during any one of the above abnormal conditions the firing pulsesthe firing pulses are inhibited to stop the supply of armature.FEACTURES:1.The DC motor can directly run from AC machines.2.no need of extra starter and rectifier3forward and reverse motoring , braking4.constant speed and variable torque and variable speed operation5.softstart (i.e, starting the motor without allowing the armature current to exceedthe full load current)6.over-load protection no-volt protection and field failure protection.
