  2. 2. © Creaons by LAckert Name: _____________________________________________________ September 1st: Labor Day (Always celebrated on the 1st Monday in September) Dedicated in honor of the worker, it is also appropriately called the "workingman's holiday". The first Labor Day was held celebrated in New York City on September 5, 1882 and was started by the Central Labor Union in New York City. In 1884, it was moved to the first Monday in September where it is celebrated today. Labor Day quickly became popular and one state after another voted it as a holiday. On June 28, 1894, the U.S. congress voted it a national holiday. What do you think about a holiday dedicated to workers? Does your family do anything special on Labor Day? If you could do anything on Labor Day what would it be?

Skyscrapers are truly e ngineering and architectural marvels. In many crowded cities, space is in short supply, and real estate prices are ever increasing. Building "up" becomes more and more logical. As technical capabilities in construction improved, skyscrapers have become taller and taller. What is the tallest building you can ever recall seeing or visiting? Is it considered a tourist attraction? What is the tallest building in your town/city? What do you like or dislike about skyscrapers? What type of skyscraper would you build? On the other side of this page, draw a picture of a skyscraper that you would build.

Have you ever seen your favorite animal in person (maybe at a zoo)? Why is it your favorite? Where does it live? What does it eat? Where is it on the food chain? Are there a lot of them alive or is it endangered? Write about your animal. On the other side of this page, draw a picture of your favorite animal.

If not, research her on the internet or using books. Who was she? What did she do? Who did she serve? Why is she famous? Do you think she liked be famous? What do you believe was her biggest accomplishment? Do you believe she should be remembered? Why or why not? Could you ever consider living as she did? Why or why not?
