      一億三千萬年前形成的陸塊
      西元800年第一批玻里尼西亞人來到紐西蘭，命名為Aotearoa（Land of the Long White Cloud長長白雲之鄉），其後代則成為毛利人
      1642年荷蘭人Abel Tasman是第一位看見這塊土地的歐洲人，命名為Nieuw Zeeland（新海上的島）
      1769年英國人James Cook船長是第一位登陸勘查的歐洲人
      1840年Waitangi條約下將土地割讓給英國
      1856年成為英國殖民地

      1907年從殖民地升格為自治地
      1947年紐西蘭完全獨立
      1987年毛利語成為法定官方語言
      2003年人口突破400萬人
      2005年公民婚姻法通過，同性婚姻伴侶擁有和一般夫妻一樣的法定權利
      人口組成：75%歐裔、14%毛利

      競爭性的部落文化：村落之間常有戰爭（奪取土地、報復攻擊、權力之重新分配）
      階級制度：若不是生在首領階級的家庭，就是平民。如果在戰爭中被俘，則淪為奴隸。
      高超的雕刻技巧（木雕、石雕、骨雕、玉雕）
      刺青藝術

      包括火山、冰河（峽灣）、雨林、平原等地形
      紐西蘭的原始動物沒有四足陸生動物，沒有哺乳類（除了蝙蝠），沒有蛇類，但曾發現恐龍化石
      鳥的國度：缺乏大型陸生動物的威脅，許多鳥類的飛行能力退化（例如已經絕種的恐鳥Moa）
      18世紀末引進外來草食動物造成原生動植物滅絕
