The Empire State Building was  constructed in 1931. It is located in New York City and stands 1,472 feet tall. There are 102 stories in the building and until 1972, it was the tallest building in the world. It took 7 million man hours 1 year and 45 days of work for completion of the Empire State Building. Standing at the top of the building, you are able to see New York City for miles and miles. Quit

The Itaipu Dam is a  hydroelectric power plant. It is the largest one operating in the world and is located on the Parana River. The countries of Brazil and its neighbor Paraguay accomplished constructing this dam. It took 16 years to build due to its huge energy production, has broken several world records. The Itaipu dam is responsible for 25% of energy supply to Brazil and 78% to Paraguay!!! Quit

The CN Tower is located in  Toronto, Canada. The purpose of the tower is to stop the interference with signals from the other city’s skyscrapers. It was causing television sets to show two programs at once for the viewers. It stands 1,815 feet tall and stands on three hollow legs. The top of the tower, known as the SkyPod, has two observation decks, a nightclub, a revolving restaurant, and broadcasting equipment. All of this is located above 1,100 feet high. Quit

The Panama Canal is a man made  canal that joins the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The construction of the canal was one of the largest, most difficult and dangerous project to be undertaken. The project was undertaken by the Americans and was completed in 1914. During the construction, thousands of people died due to diseases, mudslides, and accidents. The canal is 48 miles long and 110 feet wide. They are going to begin construction to make it even wider. The end result will be 180 feet wide. The canal has had a huge impact on shipping between the two oceans, making it much easier to ship back and forth. Quit

A series of dams that  protect the Netherlands during the flood season is known as the North Sea Protection Works. Before the NSPW, tidal surges would crash on the country regularly, ruining crops and prosperity. The Netherlands lie below sea level in several areas, therefore floodgates, dams, and surge barriers were built to keep the country from flooding and destruction. Quit

The Channel Tunnel is also  referred to as the Euro Tunnel or Chunnel. It links the countries of England and France. The tunnel is 32 miles long and located underground. The cost of building this was unthinkable. At that point in time no project had ever been thought up that would cost as much as 21 billion dollars. Today, the trains travel as fast as 100 miles another and go from point to point within 20 minutes! Quit

The Golden Gate Bridge links the  city of San Francisco and Marin County. The bridge stretches 1.2 miles over the unforgiving elements of fog, high winds, and strong currents. Because of this, it was believed that the bridge was unbuildable. The bridge is designed to have 27 feet of sway span for when it gets windy, sometimes getting up to 100 miles an hour! The two towers stand at 746 feet high, which is 191 feet taller than the Washington Monument! The best way to travel is by bicycle or on foot, vehicles have a 5 dollar toll fee and don’t get to experience as much of the beauty in their cars. Quit

 Our world has many magnificent works of art. All of these seven wonders were created by man, showing how far that we have come in technology and construction. The fact that a human mind can come up with an idea like any of these wonders as well as capable hands to build them is what makes humans incredible! The future to come will only become more intricate and technologically advanced. Quit
