Cache: In-Memory Object Cache, Accessible from Multiple Languages5. Queues: Lightweight Queue Service, In-Memory & Persistent Queues6. Search: Information Discovery, Faceted Navigation7. Payments: Integration with Paypal, Integration with Credit Card Processors, API Accessible8. Notifications: Outbound e-mail (SMTP), Outbound SMS & Push (Pager), Highly Scalable across Tenants
  • The diagram on the left shows how the Database Cloud Service fits into the overall architecture of the Public Cloud. The Database Cloud Service runs in the Oracle Database 11g Release 2 environment. The Database Services run on Exadata, the fastest database platform in the world, so customers get enterprise class performance with the Service. The Database Cloud Service environment uses many Oracle High Availability (HA) features, including triple mirroring on disk for continued access to data even if two disks fail simultaneously, RAC in an active-passive configuration to protect against instance failure, and Oracle Data Guard to protect against even catastrophic server failure.Customer data is secure in the Database Cloud Service, with security lockdowns to prevent any tenant from not only seeing data belonging to other tenants, but to even prevent one tenant from knowing that other tenants exist. The Database Cloud Service also uses Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) to protect data whenever it is stored.Developers can interact with the data and data structures in a number of ways. The Oracle Application Express Builder is a declarative tool used to create cloud-based applications, which run in the Database Cloud Service. If you want to run applications outside of the Database Cloud Service, or built with a different tool than APEX, you can create RESTful Web Services, which allow access to SQL statements and PL/SQL code through a URL. The Database Cloud Service includes a wizard which makes it easy to create these RESTful Web Services. The Application Express SQL Workshop has a number of tools that allow you to create, browse and modify data structures, run and build SQL statements, run SQl scripts, and import and export data. SQL Developer is a client-based tool which gives you rich access to your Database Cloud Service and includes a tool for uploading and downloading larger amounts of data.
