  1. 1. Medicinal Use & Health Benefit of Cayenne Pepper (Capsicum) "If you master only one herb in your life, master cayenne pepper. It is more powerful than anyother." Dr. Schulze"Cayenne pepper - prized for thousands of years for its healing power. Folklore from around theworld recounts amazing results using cayenne pepper in simple healing and in baffling healthproblems. But cayenne pepper is not just a healer from ancient history. Recent clinical studies havebeen conducted on many of the old-time health applications for this miracle herb. Again and again, the therapeutic value of cayenne pepper has been medically validated."Dr. PatrickQuillin The Healing Power of Cayenne PepperIn a recent letter to the editors of the New England Journal of Medicine, three Italian doctorsdescribe how they were able to reduce patients reported dyspepsia symptoms by more than half -by prescribing red pepper powder. In a study of 30 patients with functional dyspepsia, half of theparticipants received a placebo, while the other half took 2.5 grams of red pepper powder each day(divided into capsules taken before each of three meals). Both groups took their respectivetreatments for five weeks, and rated their symptoms each day on a scale of zero to three (higherscores indicated more severe symptoms). By the third week, the red pepper group showed asignificant advantage over the control group. And by week five, the pepper groups symptoms haddeclined 60 percent from their baseline scores - while the control groups scores had onlydecreased about half as much. The symptom scores included ratings for pain, a feeling of fullness, nausea, and an overall score. The red pepper powder produced significant gains in all four areas."Cayenne has the ability to clear the blood of matter and gasses that causedigestive problems and to help people who suffer from cold hands or feet. It alleviates inflammationand can break up the deposits that contribute to the pain of arthritis. It clears sinus congestion, conjunctivitis, and spongy, bleeding gums. Because it also has astringent qualities, it can stopbleeding and prevent swelling. A source of Vitamin C, it rejuvenates the entire body when energy isdepleted and is such a powerful stimulant that just a few sips of cayenne water or a few grains ofcayenne on the lips may help prevent shock or depression in times of physical or emotional trauma. And it is believed to be a good tonic for strengthening the heart. From my studies and my ownexperience with cayenne, I consider it to be an important ingredient for anybody interested in takingeducated and careful responsibility for his or her own well-being in situations that are not seriousenough to require a doctors care or in circumstances in which medical attention is not immediatelyavailable. "Cayenne pepper for improved blood flowCayenne pepper (also called Capsicum frutescens) is a stimulating herb made from the dried podsof chili peppers and is well known for its pungent taste and smell. Cayenne is a popular spice usedin many different regional styles of cooking, but it has also been used medicinally for thousands ofyears. Cayenne is often referred to as chili, which is the Aztec name for cayenne pepper.cayenneThe main medicinal properties of cayenne are derived from a chemical called capsaicin. Capsaicinis the ingredient which gives peppers their HEAT. A peppers capsaicin content ranges from0-1.5%. Peppers are measured according to heat units. The degree of heat determines thepeppers usage and value. Generally, the hotter the pepper, the more capsaicin it contains. Inaddition to adding heat to the pepper, capsaicin acts to reduce platelet stickiness and relieve pain.Other constituents of cayenne are vitamins E, vitamin C and carotenoids.
  2. 2. Today cayenne is used worldwide to treat a variety of health conditions, including poor circulation, weak digestion, heart disease, chronic pain, sore throats, headaches and toothache.Ayurveda also utilizes cayenne to treat poor digestion and gas. Chinese medicine uses cayenne fordigestive ailments. When taken internally, cayenne soothes the digestive tract and stimulates the flow of stomachsecretions and saliva. These secretions contain substances which help digest food.Cayenne is the greatest herbal aid to circulation and can be used on a regular basis. Dr.Richard Schulze, the medical herbalist, says that "If you master only one herb in your life, mastercayenne pepper. It is more powerful than any other."Cayenne moves bloodThere is no other herb which increases your blood flow faster than cayenne. Cayenne moves blood. When people ask Dr. Schultze, "What are the 10 most important herbs to have in the home?" Hetells them, "At the top of the list is cayenne pepper, because it will make the other 9 work better."Cayenne is the greatest blood circulation stimulant known. You can take all the milk thistle youwant, but if you have bad circulation to your liver, its not going to do you any good. Cayenneincreases your blood circulation immediately within seconds, more than any other herb. When you have a sick area, theres often a restriction of blood flow to that area. Blood flow is whattakes nutrition and the healing properties of herbs to those cells. Blood flow is also what carries outand removes waste material. Cayenne pepper is like TNT. It blasts through all that blockage to getto that area which is sick, taking with it all the minerals and vitamins from the foods you eat, and allthe vital chemicals from the herbs you take - all the way to the sick area.Cayenne pepper is usually labeled 40,000, 60,000, 90,000 or more heat units. Generally, thehigher the number of heat units, the more beneficial. The lower-heat cayenne peppers are a lot lessefficient, and they are the ones which are most highly contaminated. These are the ones you seelabeled for 30,000 heat units. These are the ones to stay away from.People who are not used to cayenne just need to work their way up. One problem people have isthat they blow their mouths with cayenne, right off the bat. For those who have never used cayennepepper before, a good initial dosage is 1/16th of a teaspoonful in some juice. Work your way up indosage slowly. Put a small amount in some juice, stir and drink. Delicious.cayenne pepperCayenne powderIt is recommended that the cayenne powder be used, as opposed to capsules. It is believed thatyou are only getting a small part of the potential effect of cayenne pepper by taking it in capsules. When you put cayenne in your mouth, your stomach secretes digestive juices before the cayenneever gets there. So when the cayenne gets down there, your stomach is ready for it.But if you swallow a capsule, your tongue tastes nothing. A capsule goes down in your stomach, and your stomach notices nothing, at first. Then, 5 minutes later the gelatin bursts, and you have a1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper in your stomach and your body is shocked. You surprised it.What is going on is that some of cayennes healing action occurs right in your mouth. Ascayenne touches your tongue, the cayenne absorbs in seconds and nerve endings sendsignals throughout the body - sending waves of fresh blood throughout your body.My favorite source for high quality, non-irradiated cayenne pepper 90,000 heat units by the pound ishere. (If the link goes to a blank page, just search their site for cayenne.) I also like Puritan Pridesspecial "Buy 2 Get 3 FREE" promotions on cayenne.
  3. 3. I highly recommend the book "The Health Benefits of Cayenne" by John Heinerman if you want tolearn more about the power of cayenne. There is no other herb stronger or more effective thancayenne to make immediate physiological and metabolic changes in the body.Sure, there are a few heating herbs like ginger and horseradish, but what other herb can you put insomebodys mouth and all of a sudden it makes their faces look like cherries? I dont know anotherherb that will do that, and cayenne does that through your whole body. Use it to improve blood flowthroughout your body.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Cayenne Pepper - Cayenne and Health(Capsicum annum)Many herbalists believe that Cayenne is the most useful and valuable herb in the herb kingdom, notonly for the entire digestive system, but also for the heart and circulatory system. It acts as acatalyst and increases the effectiveness of other herbs when used with them.Cayenne is a medicinal and nutritional herb. It is a very high source of Vitamins A & C, has thecomplete B complexes, and is very rich in organic calcium and potassium, which is one of thereasons it is good for the heart.DigestionCayenne can rebuild the tissue in the stomach and the peristaltic action in the intestines. It aidselimination and assimilation, and helps the body to create hydrochloric acid, which is so necessaryfor good digestion and assimilation, especially of proteins. All this becomes very significant whenwe realize that the digestive system plays the most important role in mental, emotional and physicalhealth, as it is through the digestive system that the brain, glands, muscles and every other part ofthe body are fed.HeartCayenne has been known to stop heart attacks within 30 seconds. For example, when a 90-year-old man in Oregon had a severe heart attack, his daughter was able to get Cayenne extract into hismouth. He was pronounced dead by the medics, but within a few minutes, he regainedconsciousness. On the way to the hospital, he remained in a semi-conscious state, but the daughterkept giving him the Cayenne extract. By the time they got to the hospital, he had fully recoveredand wanted to go home and mow the lawn. The doctor asked what she had given him, as he said itwas the closest thing to a miracle he had ever seen.If a heart attack should occur, it is suggested that a teaspoon of extract be given every 15 minutesor a teaspoon of Cayenne in a glass of hot water be taken until the crisis has passed. Dr. Andersonalso knew of a doctor who rushed out into the parking lot and put cayenne tincture into the mouthof a man who had died of a heart attack while he was parking his car. Within a few minutes, theman’s heart starting beating again.OTHER MEDICINAL USES FOR CAYENNEAcne Alcoholism Apoplexy ArteriosclerosisArthritisAsthma Bad breath Bleeding Blood purifier Bronchitis

He believes that a regimen of cayenne and hawthorn berries forseveral months will greatly strengthen the heart, and possibly prevent heart attacks. He statesfurther that if an attack were to occur in someone who had followed this regimen, chances are verygood that no damage would occur. He tells the following story about his mother:“I had her taking hawthorn berries and cayenne when she had a heart attack at the age of 79. Herdiet had not been the best, and she was in an extremely stressful situation. While in the hospital, they found three blocked arteries and wanted to operate immediately. They did not think that shecould survive for more than a few weeks if they didn’t operate. (How many have heard that story!)The doctors thought it would be very risky to operate, but they had her there, and there was a lot ofmoney to be made. So they decided to take some tests in the hopes that they could find an excuseto operate. In spite of the fact that she had been taking lots of aspirin for her arthritis, smoked likeshe was the reincarnation of a boiler factory, and had just had a heart attack, they found that herheart was incredibly strong. In fact, they felt that her heart was stronger than most people in their30’s! The good news was that not only did she survive the operation, but also she stopped smoking!Well worth the operation, don’t you think? In my opinion, that was the best thing the doctors ever didfor her. Well, that is what hawthorn and cayenne can do for the heart, and every good herbalistknows it; every good doctor should also know it, but very few do.”EmergenciesIt is a good idea to always have some Cayenne extract on hand for emergencies. Dr. Andersoncarries capsules of cayenne with him in the car and whenever he goes hiking, backpacking ormountain climbing. He says, “You never know when you may find someone having a heart attack orsome other emergency.”The following stories demonstrate only a few of the remarkable emergencyuses of cayenne. If a hemorrhage occurs in the lungs, stomach, uterus or nose, it is suggested that a teaspoon ofextract (or a teaspoon of cayenne powder in a cup of hot water) be given every 15 minutes until the
  5. 5. crisis has passed. The bleeding should stop in 10-30 seconds. The reason for this is that ratherthan the blood pressure being centralized, it is equalized by the Cayenne, and the clotting action ofthe blood becomes more rapid. For external bleeding, take cayenne internally and pour cayennedirectly on the wound.Dr. Anderson tells of one time when he was on the beach and a man began passing a kidney stone. The man took some cayenne, which relieved his pain almost immediately.A person known to Dr. Anderson had a severe toothache in the middle of the night on a weekend. He tried many things to relieve the pain. Cayenne was the only thing that helped. One of the youngest persons to take cayenne was a six-week old baby who was born with chronicasthma. Dr. John Christopher administered the cayenne using an eyedropper, and it then becamepossible for the baby to breathe normally.Dr. Christopher has used cayenne to eliminate allergies, varicose veins, cramps, constipation, andto increase energy.Dr. Anderson recommends cayenne to help cleanse the body, increase body heat, improvecirculation, and strengthen the eyes. But above all, Dr. Anderson feels that cayenne isexceptionally beneficial for the heart.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Heart Attacks: CayenneDr. Christopher"In 35 years of practice, and working with the people and teaching, I have never on house calls lostone heart attack patient and the reason is, whenever I go in--if they are still breathing--I pour downthem a cup of cayenne tea (a teaspoon of cayenne in a cup of hot water, and within minutesthey are up and around). This is one of the fastest acting aids we could ever give for the heart, because it feeds that heart immediately. Most hearts are suffering from malnutrition because ofprocessed food we are eating, but here it gets a good powerful dose of real food and its somethingthat has brought people in time after time. This is something that everyone should know how great itis, because a heart attack can come to your friends or loved ones any time. And even yourself. Thewarm tea is faster working than tablets, capsules, cold tea, because the warm tea opens up the cellstructure--makes it expand and accept the cayenne that much faster, and it goes directly to theheart, through the artery system, and feeds it in powerful food. "EMERGENCY USES 1Compiled And Edited By Tom HarrelsonTHERAPEUTIC ACTIONCAYENNE is a POWERFUL and PURE Stimulant, having NO Narcotic Effect, increasing thePOWER of the Pulse and carrying the Blood to ALL parts of the Body, plus EQUALIZING andRESTORING the BALANCE of Circulation throughout the Body! CAYENNE PEPPER IS DR. SCHULZES NO. 1 EMERGENCY HERB!
  6. 6. EMERGENCY USES 2The late herbalist and author John Christopher always carried a pocketful of cayenne peppercapsules and saved the lives of many people who had a sudden heart attack in his presence. Justopen the capsules and dump the cayenne under the tongue. Author Dick Quinn, having failed torecover from a Quadruple Bypass operation and told by his doctors that nothing could savehim, managed to prolong his life 17 years by the regular ingestion of cayenne pepper. I carrycayenne capsules with me all the time. Never know when you might be able to save a life. Offered by Educate-Yourself.Carry a tincture of cayenne pepper and give yourself a bunch of squirts into the mouth. Dr. Schulzehas saved many from heart damage by this technology, as this story taken from Herbal Therapy forSerious Illness Issue#1 (1997) A Health Newsletter by Sam Biser, relates. Offered by Mike. Schulze: I was once waiting for a patient, a man in his 50s who had a previous heart attack, and who was just beginning my programs. He was late, so I asked my secretary to see if he hadarrived. His car was parked in the driveway and it looked as if he was sleeping in it. When she wentout to wake him up and bring him in, she became hysterical. She came running in and told me hewas dead. I ran out to the car and he was beyond blue, he was slate-grey, cold, and did look dead. Isaw no breathing and felt no pulse. I put 12 whole dropperfulls of cayenne tincture into the mouth ofthis literally dead man. Biser: Isnt that way too much? Couldnt that hurt him? Schulze: Who Cares if the man has a sore throat for a week afterward? If you dont dosomething in seconds, then hes definitely dead. Biser: So what happened? Schulze: His face began to turn red - before I even started CPR, and we revived him inseconds. The paramedics took him to the hospital, and later I talked with the emergency roomphysician. He said that he had rarely seen a person who was so far gone, survive. And, he hadnever seen a person that bad, who had literally no heart damage. I think this can also be attributedto the fact that this man had been taking hawthorn berry concentrates, for months before he evercame to see me. Hawthorn is a known heart protectant. Heres my point on this whole case: I gave this man 360 drops (30-40 drops per dropperful) ofcayenne tincture. This is a dose no one would dream of. Everyone else wimps around with a coupleof dropperfuls - and to tell you the truth, they wouldnt even know to use it at all in this situation.Secondly, this wasnt ordinary cayenne tincture. This was tincture so powerful it makes the stuff youcan buy at healthfood stores and herbs suppliers look like colored water. Mexican Habaneros between 250,000 and 300,000 Scoville Units. Compare that to the 40,000Heat units that herbal companies sell you. Add enough 40%-alcohol vodka to just cover thesechopped and powdered peppers by about 1 inch. Use a blender to assist. Start on the new moon.Let it sit until the Full moon (minimum time), about 14 days, shaking it many times each day. On theFull moon, strain it off through a clean old tee shirt, pressing and straining real tight. Wash yourhands well. The cayenne stays on your hand, so wash your hands three times. I let almost all of mytinctures sit for three full months before I strain them.RECETA TINCTURA TINKTUR enALEMAN
In pharmacological tests on both animals and humans, hawthorn has beenshown to improve the contractility of the heart muscle (which can lead to a stronger pumping actionof the heart), increase cardiac performance and output, lower the peripheral vascular resistance(reducing the workload of the heart), steady the heartbeat (antiarrhythmic effect), as well asincreasing the hearts tolerance to oxygen deficiency, such as might happen during stress or
