Specific challenges 1) Tons of inventory . Lack of scarcity creates a liquidity challenge. Working on bringing big brands aboard. 2) People who are visiting social networks there for different reasons, different uses . Figuring out how to target. 3) What's the value of a &quot;friend&quot;? Trying to figure out new metrics to communicate with marketers. One area of specific weakness : social networking . The company is having trouble monetizing &quot;social networking&quot; inventory (e.g., MySpace). Guaranteed payments to MySpace, et al, caused the &quot;Traffic Acquisition Cost&quot; rate to jump to almost 90% of network revenue from 84% last quarter.   11. 13. <ul><ul><li>Digital Natives: the challenge ( Marc Prensky – “Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants” 2001) </li></ul></ul>Jennifer Carrier Dorman http://jdorman.wikispaces.com/Conferences It is now clear that as a result of this ubiquitous information environment and the sheer volume of their interaction with it, today’s students think and process information fundamentally differently from their predecessors. Our students today are all “native speakers” of the digital language of computers, video games, instantaneous communication, and the Internet. Those of us who were not born into the digital world but have, at some later point in our lives, become fascinated by and adopted many or most aspects of the new technology are Digital Immigrants. Digital Natives are used to receiving information really fast . They like to parallel process and multi-task. They prefer their graphics before their text rather than the opposite. They prefer random access (like hypertext ). They function best when networked . They prefer games to “serious” work.
