Just remember ….what is illegal offline is also illegal online …. defamation, libel, discrimination, harassment, obscenity, data protection, intellectual property, confidentiality of business information. Employees should remember that what they say can reflect upon their employer – this has always been the case, but social media seems to have increased the opportunity for sharing thoughts and so this does need to be considered carefully. If we have time we’ll debate some of these issues a little later on.I attended a Conference recently and one of the speakers advised – if you wouldn’t print it and wear it on a t-shirt, then don’t post it online. I think that’s a good rule to follow.
