Quick Review<br />Do you know how to share digital audios and videos with Blackboard, HKIEd LMS?<br />Staff needs to create an account at the video server of ITS<br />Then upload the video into the video server<br />A sample hyperlink address is given by ITS, you need to amend your file name into the hyperlink<br />Share the hyperlink in the Bb<br />Students do not have any right to upload video to the video server<br />Staff can’t give any description or instruction in the video server<br />

Objectives of sharing audio and video<br />Knowledge construction<br />Understand a topic with audio or video<br />Build on the audio and video files, create your perspective<br />Integrate other perspectives (peer comment) with your understanding<br />Create knowledge<br />i.e. Contribution, sharing and discussion are important for the knowledge construction<br />

Existing ITS server and Bb<br />Not an effective environment facilitating student knowledge construction by contribution, sharing and construction<br />Web2.0 tools: encourage contribution, sharing and collaboration<br />A web2.0 tool should be selected that can cater for contribution and sharing of audio and video to each other, for further discussion and collaboration<br />YouTube is too open for knowledge construction, sometimes the discussion is out of your control<br />

Blogging<br />Blogging mostly used by people for writing daily, weekly or monthly reflective Journal<br />Blogger is one of the most frequently used blogging tools<br />Blogger posting does not limit to text posting, it also includes sharing of audio and video files<br />With rss and subscription, people can share their audio and video files among each other, share to Blackboard, or even other Podcasting sites<br />Rss – is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works<br />Subscription – here means to subscribe the rss feed<br />

  • 9. Task: Write your first blog<br />Create your Google account first<br />Login Blogger with your Google account<br />Follow the 3-main steps provided by Blogger to create your blog<br />Reference: Refer to Bb Content materials: Post your first blog on Blogger<br />

Sharing your blogs<br />There are a number of ways to share your audio and video at your blogs<br />Share to Blackboard<br /> (share the link)<br />Share by e-mail<br /> (long chains of discussion are not encouraged)<br />Share to Facebook<br /> (It is still under research whether Facebook can support knowledge construction with media sharing)<br />
  • 12. rss, subscription and Podcast<br />You as a blogger, want somebody to receive your blog postings periodically, you need to create rss feed<br />If you as a reader, want to receive blog postings periodically, you need to subscribe a blog<br />Podcast is to feed your audio or media materials periodically to audience through feeder and subscription. Specific podcast viewer is needed, such as iTunes<br />

  • 14. Subscription<br />The rss feed brings you to a subscription page<br />To Subscribe, click訂閱此謫要 (Subscribe)<br />
  • 15. Receive your subscription<br />You have subscribed the blog and you can use IE8 to receive and view the blog<br />
  • 16. View your subscription in IE8 (Internet Explorer version 8)<br />In the left hand side bar of IE8, you can view all of your subscription<br />By tomorrow, if I post a new posting to my blog, you can receive in your IE8 and no need to go to the blog again<br />Click My favorite<br />My summary of subscription<br />

Implications<br />You can upload audio and video files to your blog from time to time<br />Your classmates can subscribe your blogs and receive your updated audio and video files from time to time<br />After viewing the video postings, peer can give comments to each other through comment box below the posting<br />Sharing and discussion can be enhanced, which will create opportunity for knowledge creation<br />Example: http://edblog.hkedcity.net/ies_wongwantin<br />Notice that this weblog recorded the learning process of an enquiry-based project: From proposal, data collection, to web-based discussion and feedback, which were shared by a group of secondary school students. <br />

  • 19. Other viewer: Google Reader<br />With you Google account, you can find Google Reader<br />Click “Add a subscription” after entering the Google Reader<br />Could you think of any other web2.0 tools for blogger subscription? <br />
  • 20. Subscribe to Google Reader<br />Copy the blog http address: http://sharingaudioandvideo.blogspot.com/<br /> and paste to the subscription blog<br />Click “Add”<br />Now you can view the subscribed audio and video with Google Reader<br />

Summary<br />You have learned how to create a blogger account and posted your first posting with video<br />You have learned how to share your blogger posting to Bb, IE8 and Google reader<br />You have learned basic concepts of rss, subscription and podcasting<br />Blogger audio and video can be uploaded to Podcasting site and be received by iTunes. However, the process is quite complicated and will be demonstrated in future podcasting workshop<br />
