    1. Development and Progression in Literacy and Numeracy Fiona Norris, TL Literacy John Tease, DO Numeracy
    2. What do we know about progression ?
      • In literacy and language development and progression:
      • is not linear
      • is not even
      • is integrated
      • happens in a variety of learning contexts
      • involves metacognition
      • combines knowledge and skills
      • is accelerated by motivation....
      • Progression in Mathematics
      • it is cumulative but not (totally) linear
      • it is not smooth and even
      • combines knowledge and understanding of concepts and skills
      • requires interpretation, integration and application
      • demands development from specific to generalisation
      • is enhanced through stimulation, active participation and imagination
      • can be demo’d by ‘je ne sais quoi? - ‘efficiency’ and ‘elegance’
