Comparative Frames Comparative Frames Presentation Transcript

    • Comparative framesScream and Room 38.
    • Title screens
These two title screens are very similar. The black background but red text connotes the same genre. However, the title screen for Scream is much more horror like it also had a special effect on it which you can see as the ‘E’ looks bigger than the other letters.
    • Location
The location regarding both Room 38 and Scream are very different. The location in scream is set at home, which is much more personal where as Room 38 is set at a school, in a science classroom.
    • Costumes
These costumes are both significant in different ways, in Room 38, Chad Becker is wearing a lab coat which connotes simply that he is a science teacher and also states his place of work, a school. Where as in scream, a jacket of a news reporter suggests that it is a ‘top story’. Both costumes tell the viewers a message.
    • Props
Both of these props are shown throughout the trailer. In Room 38, this knife is shown in a drawer, in the hands of Chad Becker and also to cut up guts. In scream, the phone is a dominant prop throughout, you see the panic when it rings. The emotion on the characters faces.
    • Camera work
The camera work on both of these images are very distinctive. Room 38 has used an arch shot, following Chad Becker. Where as Scream has used reflection to show the faces of both the characters within the frame and also shows the emotion, you can tell with the faces who is the victim.
    • Genre
You can tell the genre with these images, they are unpleasant. The guts that Chad Becker’s holding, connotes death, danger so therefore is the genre of horror and also scream, Sydney being chased by a man in costume with a knife, you cannot see his face which connotes mystery.
    • Special effects
The special effects used in the trailers are very noticeable. Room 38, this image is of Chad Becker walking towards the closet, the special effect is that you cannot see his face, this portrays mystery. Whereas Scream shows Sydney typing for help which tells the audience what’s happening.
    • Characters
Char Becker, the main character in room 38.
In Scream, this female is classed as the final girl, she is also the main character in the film.
