  • Born in a log cabin. Hardin county is now Larue county. Lincolns had moved due to slavery, and they belonged to a baptist church that disagreed with slavery. Interesting fact: Abraham was thought to be dead after being kicked in the head by a horse in 1818.
  • Abe was 24 years old at the time of his first election and a member of the whig party. After he was elected Abe began to study law. 1836- Leader of Whig Party. 1838- reelected once again, defended a man in a major murder trial,
  • In 1850 lincolns first son dies from a two month illness.
  • At the first public convention lincoln gets 110 votes for the vice president spot, and starts campaining up to that. Major slavery case that had an out come ruling in slaverys favor, lincoln was disgusted.
  • He Won the presidential race against Northern democrat Stephen A. douglas, and Southern Democrat John C. Breckenridge. Lincoln received 180 out of 303 electoral votes and 40 percent of the popular vote.

  • 1862 Bans Slavery in the District of Columbia, Issues Preliminary emancipation proclimation of slaves. Signs a bill adding west virginia to the union. 1864 elected by a coalition of republicans and war democrats
  • Lincoln and the union leaders of the civil war.
  • 1864 Defeats George b. Mclellan, Lincoln recieves 212 of 233 electoral votes and 55 percent of popular vote.
  • The most famous of all, the lincoln memorial found in washington dc. The quote above him reads “In this temple, As in the hearts of the people for whom he saved the union the memory of Abraham Lincoln is enshrined forever”.

    2. 2. Early History<br />Born February 12th, 1809 <br />Was born in Hardin County, KY<br />By 1816 The Lincolns moved to Indiana<br />Abrahams Mother died when he was just 9 years old.<br />
    3. 3. Honest Abe<br />Abraham Lincoln’s nickname “Honest Abe” came from his honesty and decency as a young man while running his store.<br />Their is legend that the nickname came from his fairness in officiating “cock fights” but without proof this is just wives tale’s.<br />
    4. 4. Beginning of Political Career<br />On August 4th, 1834, Abe was elected to the Illinois General Assembly.<br />In 1836 Lincoln was re-elected, He also received his license to start practicing law.<br />In 1838 Lincoln becomes the Whig party floor leader.<br />

Family Life<br />In 1842 Abe married his wife Mary Todd<br />1846 Lincoln’s first son Edward Baker Lincoln is born<br />1850 Lincoln has another son William Wallace Lincoln.<br />1853 “Honest Abe” has another son Thomas Lincoln<br />Lincoln and his family lived in Illinois for a while but ended up settling down in Washington D.C.<br />

    7. 7. Leading Up To Presidency<br />In 1856 Lincoln helped to create the new republican party of Illinois.<br />In 1857 Lincoln speaks against the Dred Scott decision.<br />
    8. 8. Start of a New Career<br />In 1860 Abraham Lincoln is nominated to presidency for the republican party. Lincoln up winning the presidential race<br />1861 the Civil War begins<br />On August 6th, 1861 Lincoln signs a law freeing slaves being used by the confederate army<br />
