1. The Original Alienware (Part 1)
When it comes to gaming laptops, Alienware is at the top. While other big names out there like
Samsung and HP have their own gaming laptops, Alienware is popular because they dedicate
themselves to creating gaming laptops. Are you planning to sell your laptop for this one?
They built a reputation of creating gaming laptops that are very powerful, but also unique looking.
This led to Dell acquiring the small company. Bought by Dell in 2006, Alienware’s original employees
decided to move on and create their own company, aptly named Origin.
In Origin, they focus on creating gaming laptops that are similar to Alienware’s philosophy –
powerful, usable, and sleek.
Right now, Origin only has a few products to offer, but they’re downright powerful. Currently, the
EON17-S is their most popular.
Let’s take a look at the Origin EON17S and see what makes it worthy of the name.
Design
Contrary to Alienware products, Origin products look very basic. While Alienware sports fancy looks
like custom grilles and logos, Origin looks like a normal laptop.
Since Origin is a small company, they do not have the resources to create their own laptop casings
like what you see with Apple and other brands. Instead, they buy their casings from Clevo, a
Taiwanese manufacturer of generic laptops. When they get ahold of their laptops, they fit it with their
own original design.
2. Make no mistake; it’s a pretty big laptop. It measures 16.22 inches wide and 10.87 inches in depth. It
weighs a hefty 8.6 pounds! It’s a monster, due to the 17.3 inch screen.
Thankfully though, it has a lot to brag about.
Screen
As mentioned previously, the screen is 17.3 inches, which is pretty much a standard for gaming
laptops. It has a default resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels with an aspect ratio of 16:9.
It’s an LED backlit display with a glossy finish. Everything looks bright and colorful with this screen.
You’ll definitely enjoy playing games with this laptop.
Viewing angles are also impressive hear. Even if you tilt your head to different angles, colors don’t
wash out. Your friend can watch you play your games without having to stick their head right beside
yours.
Keyboard
While the Alienware design is gone, one trait remained – the colorful backlit keyboard. With the
Origin laptop, you can change the colors of the backlight and you can separate it up to three zones.
It’s big keyboard, with an aluminum wrist rest to keep things looking sleek. You’ll find other things
like a volume slider and a mute button. There are also switches for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and the
webcam. No more clicking!
It even has its own number pad. That’s how big the keyboard is. Also, you’ll find the speakers at both
ends of the keyboard.
Touchpad
The touchpad is very basic. It’s situated at the bottom of the keyboard and has two buttons. There’s
also a fingerprint reader that’s programmable.
For example, you can assign your index finger to unlock your laptop, and you can assign your pinky
to launch a certain game. It’s definitely useful and increases efficiency.
Continuation
We’ll take a look at the most important parts of the laptop – the motherboard and the video card in
another installment. Remember you can sell used laptop right now so you can have cash for buying
an Alienware. :)
