What is Integration?According to our research: To integrate means to bring together so as to form awhole. There are various ways the principle of integration maybe applied in education. Integration also refers to the bringing together ofstudents from different ethnic and social backgrounds. But thisis of little value if the content of education is drawn from oneculture only. Education needs to be multicultural. Perhapsmore importantly, it needs to be intercultural. As important tointercultural learning as is the understanding and appreciationof cultural differences is the recognition of similarities andcommon values.
This refers to theorganization or puttingtogether diverse elementsto form a unified andharmonious whole.
The students should be able to combinehis previous experiences together inmeaningful patterns of understanding andapplication. They can either be supplement orcomplemental to each other to strengthenthe effect of teaching and learning. To dothis, one must be able to see similaritiesand differences of ideas, concepts, andissues including various phenomena.
KUYA!!For instance, a child can build the idea aboutmales around him; and he too, realizes thatthere is a male whom he/she mustcall, daddy, there is also one whom he mustcall grandpa, and there is still one whom he/she will call kuya or tito.
There are infinite examples tosupport learning as an integrativeprocess. No amount of learning can take placeunless they can be incorporated anduse to practical situations.
If students are made to workon portfolios or reports oncertain issues like pollutionusing educational technologyand that they are made toanswer the issues by playingthe roles of variouscitizens, the experiencesbecome more pronounced asthey can be recalled tohighlight current experiences.
