3. What is the discovery centre?
The discovery centre is a place to learn all
about the environment. It educates learners
about the importance of protecting the
environment and using energy efficient
products.
4. Why do we have the discovery
centre?
It reduces the amount of energy as it uses the
sun as natural lighting. It has multiple solar
panels to also store and re-use sunlight.

5. Sustainability
There are multiple ways that the discovery centre uses
sustainability. It means that we used design principles that last
for a long time and reduces, re-uses and recycles.

6. Solar panels
We put solar panels at the back of the building as it
gets more sunlight. They store energy from the sun
so that the centre can get natural light. This way, we
don’t waste energy from electricity, we save money
and energy.
7. Re-using water
On the roof of the Discovery Centre, there is
vegetation for the use of the community. This small
vegetable garden needs to be watered so we are re-
using recycled water to water them. This saves us
using new water that can go to the use of the
community not the plants.
8. Windows
We have a lot of windows in the centre to let a lot of
sunlight in. For this reason, we do not need to install
powerful or expensive lights to provide lighting – we
have the solar panels for that. The windows are
positioned at about eye level.

10. Our company
Our company is called NRC – National Redevelopment Company (Natalie, Rachel,
Ciel). We have worked on redesigning the area of Wentworth Point with
sustainability which is what you just read about previously for the environment. The
sustainability for the community is also very important as the new generation of
residents come. We have designed a Discovery Centre, Community Centre and
Information Centre. We are in the process of making the centres sustainable for the
environment and community.
