LS ecosystems

 1. 1. 4th Grade CA. Standards : 4 LS 3.a Students know ecosystems can be characterized by their living and non living components. Ecosystems By: Lorena Jimenez
 2. 2. Living things + Non living things _________________ Ecosystem A n ecosystem is a community in nature, including all its living and non living parts.
 3. 3. Ecosystems are made up of biotic (living) and abiotic (nonliving) things.

Bio tic: bio means living .

A biotic: The prefix ( a ) means not , so abiotic means not living.

Plants Animals Microorganisms Temperature Sunlight Soil Water Rainfall
 4. 4. Do you see any biotic (living) or abiotic (non living) things?

Biotic /living

Abiotic /non living

trees grass plants soil water rocks sunlight
 5. 5. How do biotic (living) and abiotic (non living) things interact in the pond ecosystem ? Plants make their home in the soil. Birds use grasses to make nests. Bacteria in the soil break down leaves. Frogs catch insects in and around the pond.
 6. 6. What makes ecosystems different?

The amount of water

The amount of sunlight The type of soil
 7. 7. Rainforest ecosystem

Its almost always raining.

No direct sunlight.

Millions of plants and animals.

Generates oxygen.

7% of earth’ s surface.

 8. 8. Desert Ecosystem It hardly ever rains in the desert. There are little plants and animals. Extreme temperatures. Direct sunlight.
 9. 9. Ocean Ecosystem Mostly salt water. 70% of earth’s surface. Home to thousands of plants and animals. 97% of earth’s water supply.
 10. 10. Remember !

Ecosystems are made up of bio tic (living) and a biotic (non living) things.

Biotic factors: plants, animals, and microorganisms.

Abiotic factors: temperature, sunlight, soil, water, and rainfall.

Ecosystem can have different: amounts of water and sun light and they can have different types of soil.
