  • 2. Living things + Non living things _________________ Ecosystem A n ecosystem is a community in nature, including all its living and non living parts.
  • 3. Ecosystems are made up of biotic (living) and abiotic (nonliving) things.
    • Bio tic: bio means living .
    • A biotic: The prefix ( a ) means not , so abiotic means not living.

  • 5. How do biotic (living) and abiotic (non living) things interact in the pond ecosystem ? Plants make their home in the soil. Birds use grasses to make nests. Bacteria in the soil break down leaves. Frogs catch insects in and around the pond.
  • 6. What makes ecosystems different?
    • The amount of water
    The amount of sunlight The type of soil
  • 7. Rainforest ecosystem
    • Its almost always raining.
    • No direct sunlight.
    • Millions of plants and animals.
    • Generates oxygen.
    • 7% of earth’ s surface.
  • 8. Desert Ecosystem It hardly ever rains in the desert. There are little plants and animals. Extreme temperatures. Direct sunlight.
  • 9. Ocean Ecosystem Mostly salt water. 70% of earth’s surface. Home to thousands of plants and animals. 97% of earth’s water supply.

    • Ecosystems are made up of bio tic (living) and a biotic (non living) things.
    • Biotic factors: plants, animals, and microorganisms.
    • Abiotic factors: temperature, sunlight, soil, water, and rainfall.
    • Ecosystem can have different: amounts of water and sun light and they can have different types of soil.
