Or if it were, it bore not beauty’s name.This line means that even if peopledid give black people respect, no onecalled them beautiful. White peopledid not like how they looked and didnot think that they looked how peoplewere supposed to look.
But now is black beauty’s successive heir,This line means that now in time, people dothink that black people are beautiful, and theydo look like humans. They do have a badreputation because of all the names they gotcalled, but people still consider them people.
