Videogame Case Study- Red Dead Revolver - Presentation Transcript

    1. Red Dead Revolver Rose Cormie and Caitlin Clark
      • Where was it developed?
      • Red Dead Revolver was developed by Rockstar San Diego for Playstation 2 and Xbox and released on 11 th June 2004 and was given a 16+ rating.
Cultural influences/references; Red Dead Revolver is inspired by the Spaghetti Western films of Sergio Leone, in particular the films that starred Clint Eastwood. You can see that this game is inspired by the western culture from the costume that the character is wearing, for example a cowboy hat, and from the props and surroundings.
    2. Poster
      • The poster for GTA makes it obvious what kind of lives the characters lead by, on the San Andreas poster, the use of costume and props. The Red Dead Revolver poster also shows this because the character is wearing a cowboy hat and has a gun in his hand.
      How was it marketed?
      • How was it distributed?
The game could be previewed through trailers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-exuahRl2g You can immediately tell what type of game this is because of the style of music and by the surroundings. The trailer starts with the main character in the middle of the desert. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcflyOLSx38 The opening Red Dead Revolver starts off like a film in the way it introduces all the characters, by using titles and freeze frames of each character. You could purchase the game for PlayStation 2 and Xbox and it could be purchased online, from websites such as play.com, or from game shops and bigger stores such as PC world.
      • From the reviews we found on the internet we found that Red Dead Revolver was not rated as highly as other Rockstar games, such as GTA. The game was said to “lack focus” and was “trying to go in too many directions at once”. On the other hand this game was said to be a good game for fans of western films which we consider to be the target audience. You can see that fans of western films would be the target audience for Read Dead Revolver because the have made the main character and the setting of the game very similar and as realistic as possible to that of an old western film.
“ would have been so much better had the character moved less rigidly” “ there are too many different playable characters and too many unique gameplay elements that just don’t gel”
