Legislative Branch <ul><li>Congress is made up of the Senate and the House of Representatives </li></ul><ul><li>Congress writes and passes the laws for the nation </li></ul><ul><li>Each House (Senate and House of Representatives) can reject each other’s bills </li></ul><ul><li>Congress has the power to declare war on another country </li></ul><ul><li>Some of the laws that are passed are taxes </li></ul>

Executive Branch <ul><li>Executive Branch is led by the President and Vice President </li></ul><ul><li>President can veto (reject) a bill or law that has been passed by Congress </li></ul><ul><li>President consults with his Cabinet to appoint new judges </li></ul><ul><li>President can pardon criminals who have been found guilty </li></ul><ul><li>When the President is making tough decisions he asks his Cabinet for advice </li></ul>

Judicial Branch <ul><li>The Judicial Branch is made up of courts </li></ul><ul><li>When people are unsure of the meaning of a law, the Judicial Branch listens to many opinions and makes a decision </li></ul><ul><li>The highest court in the United States is the Supreme Court which decides controversial legal issues </li></ul><ul><li>The Supreme Court can declare a new law unconstitutional or illegal </li></ul><ul><li>The decisions of the Supreme Court must be followed across the USA </li></ul>
