The BMI-BRSCU Strategic Forum is into its 20th year since inception and has been improved and reinvented several times over this period. It is essentially a systems based information arbitrage process across the Building, Construction and Property Industries in South Africa. Recently we declared the intent to take the Forum to a higher level. A process of wide reading, consultation and deep thinking followed, with the declared intent itself driving the process although the outcome was unknown. The ensuing developments were inspired by a number of books, but notably (in no particular sequence) Wikinomics by Tapscott and Williams, Hot Spots by Lynda Gratton, Competing on the edge of Chaos by Brown and Eisehardt and The World Cafe by Juanita Brown and David Isaacs. What emerged was the development of a cross boundary, mullti Industry and multi functional Social Networking Knowledge Cafe both in real physical setting as well as virtually on the web. The Vision is that the entire Industry System of some R2000 Billion will participate in the process and so develop a vibrant and dynamic information and Knowledge sharing web of continuously learning organisations.
