  4. 4. http://www.cnn.com3. The next section, which is cnn, is the name of the webpage or website. It is flanked by dots, which separate if from other sections of the web address.
  5. 5. http://www.cnn.com4. .com is the domain nameThis tells where the web page is registered, and often tells you what kind of website it is.
  6. 6. Other common domain names: .com - means that you are looking at commercial site, or a site that someone has paid to use .edu - sites for educational institutions .org - sites belonging to organizations .gov - sites sponsored by local state, or federal governments

The / followed by another word or words lets you know that you are going to a different area or page on that website. In this example, you will be taken to the World News page on CNN’s web site.
