  • Work Sample: Nutrition Education – Child Focused Undergraduate project: Development and Implementation of a Nutrition Education Program
  • Interactive Farm Display
    • The farm consisted of a fruit orchard, a dairy barn and a vegetable patch. The goal of the project was for the children to understand where their food comes from; we wanted to show the children that food doesn’t just come from a store.
  • Lesson Plan
    • Opening activity
    • Give the children a tour of our miniature farm. Answer questions and tell them a little about each area of the farm: the dairy barn, vegetable patch and fruit orchard. Also, bring in a kid’s food pyramid and show the children where fruits, vegetables and dairy products are on the pyramid. This will give the teacher a lead in to teaching more about the food pyramid later in the year.
    • Middle Activities:
    • Kids will pick a picture of a food from a plate of pictures that are face down. They will then try to identify where on the farm it comes from. They will tell the group what the food is and put the picture of the food on the area of the farm they think it comes from.
    • Wrap-Up Activity:
    •   Tasting! The children will be supplied with samples of fruits, vegetables and dairy products. They will be asked to try at least one from each group and will be asked to identify the food and where on the farm it comes from.
  • Taste Testing!
    • As a wrap up, the children were given an opportunity to try new foods and were encouraged to tell us where on the farm the food came from
  • Certificate of Participation
    • All children received a certificate as part of the wrap up activity
